This product was cheaply made. The shaft is supported by a single bearing in the front. There is a cavity for a 2nd bearing in the back, which was not used. The generator may be useful for a classroom demonstration, but I would not use it for a practical application. Any current generation would cause twisting of the shaft and this twisting would quickly ruin the single bearing. You can buy the same type of generator, but with 2 bearings, which is the proper way, in my opinion, to support the shaft. Then the shaft can be connected with a flexible linkage to whatever provides the power (I used a clamped rubber hose with socket and a drill as a driving force).
