Like many inexpensive tools manufactured and delivered from Chinese manufacturing companies, this magnetic chuck will require some work to be useful in your workshop.If you do not have access to a reference surface plate,decent precision metrology, a decently true surface grinder or the skills to mechanic-blue/scrape, this might not be for you.The one I ordered arrived quickly enough, but the packaging consisted only of a poorly taped up cardboard box. It was delivered (roughly, and not by any fault of the manufacturer/seller) on a cement porch, and damage was evident. Had the chuck been in even a thin plywood box, the edge/corner dinging damage would probably have been avoided.The device is very solid, and the actuator mechanism is positive and the magnetic field is quite strong, I can forsee it being able to handle workholding for any material able to sit within the confines of its 5"x16" face.That being said, the base (machine oriented) surface finish is quite good (after aggressively file/die-grind removing the delivery induced dings and edge burrs); however, the surface (tool oriented) finish is quite unremarkable. It will require a fair amount of work to get it into suitably usable shape.The construction of the surface is a typical lamination of stainless/mild with copper brazing (and quite nice), but the top plate seems to have missed its final grinding, as it's obvious when you run a finger across it that there's probably 1-1.5 thou worth of misaligned poles in random locations across the face of the surface.If you have access to a surface grinder, it will clean up nicely with one or two light passes. Bluing/scraping might be a little more work, but is easily do-able.
