My daughter is headed off to college and my wife suggested getting her some sort of personal alarm that she could quickly activate if she were ever in danger. I did some searching and research and settled on this set.I like that she just has to give it a tug to activate it. I love that it has a strobe light, and the siren is plenty loud.I saw some other options that were rechargeable but that has advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, I like the idea of not having to replace batteries; on the other hand, I worry about the rechargeable battery keeping its charge and her having to remember to charge it periodically. This one uses batteries and I think that's the best bet.Getting two of them for this price is great. One for her backpack and one for her purse.

I got this for my daughter because she went away to college. That it was a two-piece set, the other one could go to my wife. Seemed like a good idea at the time. When it arrived, it was quite a bit larger than in the pictures. I guess those images were Photoshopped or the women in the photos were big women. I held off on reviewing the item till Christmas break so I could see how practical it was with my daughter. Drum roll ... it's so big she stopped carrying it around with her pretty quickly. She's average height for a woman (maybe an inch shorter). Then my wife told me she wasn't carrying her with her, either, because it's so big. My wife is an inch taller than the average American woman. So ... not helpful.

I got these personal safety alarms thinking I could give one to my 88-year-old mom since the listing touts it as a good device for the elderly. There are pluses and minuses to this device.-The alarm sound is piercing, but it's easy to cover up with your hand and mute the sound significantly.-The flashing light on the side is bright enough but once again, you can cover it up with your hand.-The way to activate this device is to pull off the top plastic ring that has a pin that's inserted inside the device. It requires a good yank, which is good for not accidentally activating in your bag, but would be challenging for a senior with arthritic hands.I don't think this device is necessarily bad, but I think the design and how to use it isn't as smooth as it could be and it isn't a good fit for my family's needs. But may work for others.
