Actually, if I’m honest, these are a little nicer, even (these aren’t just flat, but have a more attractive molded-in texture pattern), and when I acquired these, they actually cost less than comparable ones at our local ‘blue’ big box store.We’ve used these on small ash and maple trees for years, and they’re outstanding in that they 1.) keep grass, weeds, and even flowers from pushing up against the trunks, and 2.) keep the ground moist all day long underneath (after a morning watering), even in direct southwest U.S. sun.Regular organic mulch breaks down too easily, and invasive weeds like knapweed think nothing of pushing regular mulch out of the way. These have always keep our trees weed-free, which also means you’re not going to accidentally get too close to the trunks if you do need to do a little weed or grass management with a cutter.
