I use this for combing, but the main thing I use it for is cutting off mats on my big Maine Coon. I can work the pins under a mat and cut through the mat without cutting his skin accidentally. He has so much hair it usually doesn’t even show where I trim. My Coons don’t like grooming and are afraid of scissors. I have accidentally cut skin before when removing mats. The long pins on this comb are perfect. Tip: if you cut off the top of a mat, you can often pull the base apart with your fingers and comb out the rest. Usually there is new long hair trapped under it. My cats get mats in the arm pits and on their bellies.

I have a mini Aussiedoodle (18 lbs.) who has long, fluffy hair and mats very easily. This has the right sized comb teeth for him to get through some of those mats that are starting and to check my work after brushing. The comb is easy to hold and see and it's probably something I won't lose. I have lost two combs somehow around here.....

The teeth of the comb are longer and less sharp than they appear in the product photo, which was a welcome surprise on both counts. I was looking for a comb with longer teeth such as this one to replace and old one we lost. It's just the right size for my small, long haired, double coated dog. It's appropriate mostly for daily grooming to prevent mats before they occur. If he was already super tangled, I'd probably choose a different tool for teasing out mats. But this is perfect for maintenance grooming. The wide, rounded teeth of this comb are comfortable for my dog so he doesn't hate it so much which lets me groom him more often. I would buy this again.

I have bought dozens of combs for my doodles curly coats. THIS was the right comb. Rubber handle so I can hold it without hand cramps and teeth wide enough to easily pull through their curls. I recommend this comb.
