The Grigri is the benchmark for all other belay devices. It’s hard to improve on the original but yet they did. The Grigri is easy to use, built of quality materials, is light weight and sturdy.To clear up any questions on the models.The original Grigri has been around for almost 30 years or so, it really is a great product but is no longer in productionThe Grigri 2 is a smaller lighter version of the original, they still offer it and is what most people use, has and will continue to be a great product.The Grigri plus is best described as being great for newer climbers or designed for use in a rock gym where people may have less experience belaying. It has some extra features such as reinforced stainless wear plates, a top rope setting that changes spring tension and an anti panic handle. The downside is cost and weight.The Grigri (3rd gen) is larger than the 2 and has some built in material on the cam to make use easier. It is lighter and less expensive than the plus but it does not have the top rope feature or the anti panic handle. (It is still no problem to top rope belay with, beginning climbers may have a slight learning curve)Any of the models will preform well. If you are not running a climbing gym, this one is probably going to do everything you want it to.

I've used an ATC, grigri, and grigri +. I personally prefer the grigri over other belay devices as I've grown quite comfortable with it. It's nice that a range of rope thicknesses fit in this. It's light enough to bring with you on a multi-pitch, small enough that it doesn't take up a ton of space either.

Tried and True. I had the first GRIGRI. Missed the second (well not really missed, but didn't need) and now the 3. Improved safety and one hand operation. I use this as a recreationalist and as a professional who has a degree in good times with an emphasis in outdoor good times.

Only used it a few times but it seems to be working just fine. It’s a little stiff with feeding the rope through but I imagine after using it a couple more times it’ll be good.
