About this item

  • Our PING))) ultrasonic sensor provides an easy method of distance measurement. This sensor is perfect for any number of applications that require you to perform measurements between moving or stationary objects. A single I/O pin is used to trigger an ultrasonic burst (well above human hearing) and then "listen" for the echo return pulse. The sensor measures the time required for the echo return, and returns this value to the microcontroller as a variable-width pulse via the same I/O pin

Key Features: -Provides precise, non-contact distance measurements within a 2 cm to 3 m range -Ultrasonic measurements work in any lighting condition, making this a good choice to supplement infrared object detectors -Simple pulse in/pulse out communication requires just one --I/O pin -Burst indicator LED shows measurement in progress -3-pin header makes it easy to connect to a development board, directly or with an extension cable, no soldering required

I used this sensor with arduino. Parallax has the code to sense the distance available on their website along with good documentation:[...]This sensor only uses one I/O pin. This is good if you have a lot of sensors. If you don't need this feature, I recommend the following sensor that uses 2 I/O pins and is much cheaper:http://www.amazon.com/SainSmart-HC-SR04-Ranging-Detector-Distance/dp/B004U8TOE6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395765869&sr=8-1&keywords=Ultrasonic+Range+Sensor

For detecting relative distance over the advertised range, the Parallax unit does a better job filtering out noisy values and providing repeatable results.

Very happy with this part. Much better performing than the ultrasonic sensor that came with an Arduino Uno kit I bought.

You get NO benefit from 4 pins, it just wastes one of your Arduino pins. AND the NewPing library works perfectly with these just set the signal and trigger to the same pin #.

This sensor works well and has the range that cheaper ones do not. I had consistant reading of the correct distance.

These work, but the price, I mean seriously. There are "just as good" options out there for a small fraction of the cost. Also, these burn out, I've had at least half of them fail.I buy a lot of ping sensors.

Works well does everything it is supposed to do

Ultrasonic distance sensors, and the PING are great devices but you can get them for around $5 now. I would suggest looking around a bit more. I purchased several others for Arduino projects and they all work very well.
