These clamp down on any size of cord that has fit in the hole. I have had no problem with them slipping. I don’t know if they would work on small string. They seem to be good quality. The spring seems to be a good spring and I think is likely to last a long time. There were a lot in the pack. I applied them where I replaced others that were broken or missing. I put them into a lot of places in my gear so I always have spares. I like them and I am glad to have them.
