I use these for paint by number using acrylic paint pens. I find with the grandkids it is easier to use paint pens then paint brushes and the paint that come with paint by numbers. So you match up the paint pens with the color of the paint by numbers and this allows you to number them one through however many paint numbers there are in the project.
