Used to pack two older valves that were leaking at the packing nut. One was a shut off valve for an outside hose bib and the other was on the sight glass of a residential boiler. To use properly follow these steps... I removed the packing nut and cleaned out the area underneath and around the valve stem really well. I used some sand cloth to shine up the stem. Pulled apart a smaller strand from the rope and cut off about 3 inches and wrapped it tightly clockwise around the stem. Replace the nut and snug down on the packing twine. I removed the nut again and added another strand so it would pack in nice and tight.

repacked the hose faucet and put a new washer in. no more leaks! i didn't have to replace it

without turning off the water meter simply screwed out stem packing nut wrapped a couple of wraps around the stem & screwed packing nut on

Definitely recommend this product for packing older faucets. Have replaced the packing older faucets with graphite coated Teflon. Lasts about 6 months, and a mess to clean up. This is so much sturdier
