Only requiring a 115V single-phase power source, the inverter delivers 1HP, 230V, 3PH performance, giving users maximum speed (3,600 RPM) with minimum input. With a capacity of 14" swing over bed and 20" between centers, which can be increased with the optional 13" bed extension. Premium sliding headstock feature allows greater clearance when positioned at the end of the bed for outboard turning. Robust cast iron bed reduces vibration when turning larger and rougher pieces. Digital Indexing and spindle speed readout are clearly visible on the magnetic repositionable control box.

Folks, DO NOT BUY THIS LATHE FROM AMAZON !!POWERMATIC IS SELLING ALL THE DEFECTS TO AMAZONAMAZON IS SELLING THE DEFECTIVE LATHES TO UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERSYEAH AMAZON WILL TAKE IT BACK AND SHIP YOU A REPLACEMENT WITH THE SAME DEFEC IF YOU CATCH THE DEFECT!! BUT LOOK AT THE HASSEL YOU GO THROUGH. IT WEAIGHTS almost 200 lbs.I got my 1st brand new POWERMATIC 20 x14 lathe From AmazonI set it up and turned it onAND low and behold the SPINDLE IS WARLED !!enough to see it wobble and listen I can hear it grinding too! SENT IT BACK!I received a replacement May 10th. IT has the same issue/DEFECT as the first one Warped Spindle!not as bad BUT warped also.... I tried to use it but turning a bowl as smooth as possible it wabbles.Check the spindle for runoutI Used a dial indicator to measure the spindle runout. Excessive runout can be caused by bearing issues or spindle damage.Rotate the spindle slowly and observe the dial indicator for variations.Typically, minimal runout is essential for precision work.THIS is a Factory DEFECT! ........ Damn Right, "minimal runout is essential for precision work"IF the spindle is bent even slightly, you can NEVER get a smooth project!

This is a really nice lathe and a great upgrade from the midi I was using. It is a substantial machine. The rails, banjo and tailstock are very heavy and heavy duty. I'm not sure about the 120v inverter (another bit of electronics) but the power and the convenience is great. I'm not looking to turn 20" platters or baseball bats so the 20x14 dimensions work fine for me. And, it fits well on my prior base. A couple of 1-1/4 to 1" spindle adapters keep all my chucks in business, and a 1" post for my Sorby tool rest system -- everything is heavy duty. Expensive in this size class, but I thinks it is well worth it!

Have owned lathe for two months, the headstock has developed a distinct “tickâ€. Contacted Amazon and they sent a replacement lathe. The replacement lathe lasted 3 weeks, the replacement lathe was a older serial number. The wheel that goes over the rpm counter looks like a cam shaft. I have returned both lathes and have purchased a Laguna lathe. Good luck folks, they wanted to send me a replacement and I just can’t trust powermatic to deliver a reliable product. Good luck if you are buying one. It’s shameful, this is a known issue with these lathes. I did not know that and bought the lathe based n Powermatics reputation. Good luck, it appears that somebody does not give a damn about their products.

Nothing to dislike about this lathe. Been running lathes for 40 years and this little guy is top quality machinery. Heavy duty equipment. If you can spend the money, do it.

The switch went out, the motor shaft sheared off in less than a year of intermittent use. I thought I was buying the best. Not sure I’ll buy another Powermatic

I have had a big PM lathe for many years. When PM ran a special in Jun/July 23 I snapped one up to replace my Laguna 1216 primarily as a teaching lathe. Love the sliding HS, clamping on tool rest holder is so much better than most lathes, 1" post, moveable HS, spindle lock, acme threads on TS and long quill travel, 1 1/4"x8 spindle like my PM 3520c and quality construction. I did a video review on my YT channel.

I thought it would be a reliable lath.

I purchased this as an upgrade from a first-generation Nova Comet midi lathe - this tool is in another class altogether. It is heavy, stable, and very smooth - all attrributes of a first-class lathe. The ability to change speeds on the fly - and to dial in the right range for any particular portion of a turning - is a true game-changer. I constructed a torsion-box stand which I filled with sand for additional weight and stability. I also purchased the 13" bed extension. Beware: although they are regularly pictured together, the bed extension does not include the toolrest extension (2014-TEA), and this part does not appear to yet be available.
