I am overhauling our garden this spring and this has been invaluable in helping me determine what the conditions are and where my soil needs amendment before planned crops go in.The only thing I didn't realize was the tests aren't an all-in-one. It's not that big of a deal, I just get to play chemist for a bit. I can't speak to the accuracy since I'm not also getting it independently tested- but everything tested within good ranges. I'm serious about getting our backyard garden super-productive this year, this will help with that goal!

I got this because I am taking a gardening class and was curious about the chemical makeup of my soil. There are supplies to do 40 tests, 10 each for for PH, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. The text of the item description (40 Complete tests) could be taken to mean that you are getting 40 of each of the tests, which is not the case.I did the analysis on some of my garden soil and it all seemed to work fine. I found the potassium test hard to read, as you place the vial of liquid on top of the black part of the color card, and cup your hands around it and look through the liquid to see what color it is. I couldn't see much through the liquid, so I guess that means there was a lot of potassium.I also had a PH test from another company and it came out with a different reading. This test showed that the PH was 5 - 5.5 and the other test showed it was around 7. I have no idea which is right though.A note from my gardening class...whatever your soil tests show, adding organic matter won't hurt at all, so if you don't want to do the testing - just add compost. :-)

This is an impressive soil testing kit. It includes all the chemicals, containers, and utensils required to test soil for nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and pH plus detailed and easy to understand instructions. Suggestions for soil amendments to correct out-of-whack readings are also included. The procedures outlined in the instructions require much more exacting soil preparation and elaborate testing procedures than other tests I have used. These processes give me the sense that the test results will be more precise than those I’ve gotten from other tests. I received this test in February when the soil in my New England garden is frozen and under several inches of snow, making it impossible to do any testing yet. If I’m dissatisfied with my experience when I do test in the spring, I’ll update my review.

This kit is a reasonably easy way to test for major nutrients (nitrogen, potassium, phosphorous, and pH). Be aware that the reagent tablets come in three different varieties and are not labeled very distinctly. When I did my first test, I confused the reagent tablets and ruined the first test- my mistake, but be careful.Once I got on track, setting up the tests was simple, although interpreting the results was a little frustrating- it all comes down to differentiating between subtle shades of color- differentiating between light lavender vs light pinkish lavender, for example- it ultimately comes down to guesswork, but it does give you SOME IDEA of nutrient levels.

This kit tests for the macronutrients and pH. It's not as good as a soil test from a lab, but it's quick and easy. You can do it at home instead of having to send a soil sample to the lab. It's also much cheaper. If you've ever done an aquarium water test, the process will be familiar to you. Basically mix the reagents and sample in a vial and compare the colors. The pH test is the standard strip, but for the macronutrients you should be careful to follow the instructions.I don't know how good the readings are, but they're good enough to give you an idea of the general values in your soil. It could be very useful to have readings over time to allow you to adjust fertilization.

This testing kit is easy to use and there are enough strips (24 in a package) to last quite a while. My geraniums stopped producing as many flowers and I am dialing in the nutrients.

I purchased this kit for my garden this summer. I hope to create a space where my plants and vegetables receive all the nutrients they need. I like that this kit comes in a nice box and contains multiple chemicals and testing processes. In addition, there are clear directions for use. I have used one of these so far to test the soil in my front lawn and it was very easy to use.

Please note that there are three different packets of tablets each with a very faint number on them. I wrecked a couple of tests before I realized this. The kit itself is well designed and contains all the items you need to perform the tests. It will basically tell you if you have low, medium or high amounts of phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium and the ph (acidity) of the soil. It's a bit of work but the results seem to be accurate. I took one star off because the ph test uses only one piece of litmus rather than another I have used that has four. Having the four colors to match seems to be more accurate.I was worried that my soil was too acidic due to the number of pine trees constantly dropping pin straw on the garden. Turns out the ph is fine but it is lacking in nitrogen which is vital for good leaf production. Good to know.
