wow. Just wow. I've had 3 rosins in my 3 years of violin playing... Hill, Jade and this one and this just tops the charts for me! Been using it for a month now so this should give me a fair reviewpros:-It's a beautiful red color that even its specks look like hinalayan salt (pink) and it is my favorite color ... Very elegant to look at from the magnetic case to the rosin. I love the design of the cake as I can easily evenly rub the rosin on my bow.- LOVELY SOUND! It not only looks nice... It sounded to my violin warm, full and buttery smooth! My violin has a warm, 'masculine' yet sweet voice and I think this rosin enhanced it :) if my violin had a personality it would be the warm, sensitive and boy next door type :)- Despite being a bit pricey, each penny was worth it as I'm sure this would last me ages (and even of it didn't, I'd still buy it again because it made my practice sessions quite enjoyable)- superb customer service! The follow up was awesome!- I love how I wouldnt need to use a different rosin for the cold and warm weather. VERY cost effective :)Cons:-Quite dusty BUT it doesn't bother me because it sure looks like snow and I'm not asthmatic.- a bit fragile but not as expected. Ive read some reviews about this issue hence I was a bit cautious that it might break and it did crumble somewhat where the frog meets the rosin but once I got a hang of a technique so that it wouldn't touch... Voila :)Overall, an awesome product and I highly recommend you try it too :)

I had ordered the carbon fiber bow from the Fiddlerman and wasn't really getting the sound I wanted out of it with the "student grade" light rosin that came with my violin outfit although the rosin seemed to work fine with the original bow. On a whim I decided to try this rosin, and I'm glad I did. It applied easily, and really seems to improve the tone and raw of the Fiddlerman carbon fiber bow. The tone is much improved with less squeaking and whistling. I realize that, as a beginner at the violin I may not be qualified to judge this, but, that's my impression at least. The rosin comes nicely packaged in a two part plastic box with a magnetic closure, making accessing the rosin a snap. The only issue is that the rosin is attached to the base with a dab of hot melt glue which doesn't want to adhere to the plastic base. As a result, the rosin arrived in the mail rattling around inside the box and a bit chipped around the edge. Perhaps a different glue needs to be used in production to prevent this.Otherwise, a fine product that performs as it should (as far as I can tell).

Edited 5/15/18: I just received a new violin that has synthetic strings on it (not the beginner steel strings). I used my old bow (also a fiddlerman carbon fiber bow) with dark rosin on it and it was rough and scratchy on the new violins strings. I rosined up my new bow with the holstein premium and it's much smoother. I will in fact continue to use this product. Tip: hold the base of the rosin with a cloth and it won't slide onto your fingers. I've increased my rating from 3 to 4 stars.Full disclaimer: I'm just a beginner, so take my review with a grain of salt. I purchased Holstein Premium Violin rosin because I bought one of the Fiddlerman carbon fiber bows and also one of their violins. Their customer service is awesome (worth more than five stars) and I didn't mind paying a bit more to support their business.I thought I might notice a higher quality rosin would make playing the violin easier. It doesn't. And I can't really tell a difference between this rosin and rosins a quarter of the price. Maybe as I advance in playing I will appreciate it more. That said, there is nothing wrong with the Rosin. I'm dropping a star because it's more expensive than rosins that seem to do just as well.I will drop another star because of the container the rosin comes in. The lid is very tall. In fact, it could hold two to three times as much rosin as it comes with. There is no room in my small violin case to put it. Also, I don't like the design of the base of the rosin: when running the bow over the rosin, the bow easily slips and slides down onto your fingers. The bow-hair is not supposed to touch your fingers because of the natural oil on your hands. I have two other rosins: comes in a cloth and I have another one that came with the violin in a container such as . If the bow slips off, it slides onto a cloth or bumps against the side of the container, preventing the bow from touching my fingers.

I've played the violin for more than twenty years and used numerous brands of rosin.I really liked this product for several reasons; First, the bow hair takes up the rosin easily without producing alot of dust. I've also noticed a distinct improvement in sound quality and bow draw across the strings. Some rosins feel sticky on the strings or not sticky enough producing off-sounds.This rosin performed exceptionally well and I will put it on my "buy again" list.
