The exterior of the box is nice, but that's about as far as it goes. Opening the box and there's a really bad moldy smell, the inside lining of the lid has spots on it that I can only assume to be mold, and the bottom lining on the right side isn't even fully glued down and is pulling away from the box (see pictures). Also, the metal band on the gavel doesn't seem to be removable so my local engraver can't engrave the gavel. Paying over $100, you'd sure expect this to be better made, not smell bad, and not be full of mold.

The first was not closing evenly, although the clasp was in lock position and staining was ok. The second one was the quality I was looking for, and was very pleased. I docked ratings because I had to return.

I presented this at an annual meeting to the outgoing chairman of our board of directors. Excellent, high quality. It looks much more expensive than the actual cost. As an aside, I had a brass plate engraved and attached to the top of the presentation case at a local trophy shop. The best compliment that I can give about the gavel, base and case is that I would like to be presented one someday by my board of directors! I highly recommend this product.
