Mancala is thousands of years old, tracing its lineage to ancient Egypt. Legend has it that workers played the game during rest periods while building the pyramids. But the game is great for modern times as well--it has gained new popularity as one of the world's most intriguing and clever two-player games. To start, place all the stones in the pockets of the board. When it's your turn, choose a pocket and scoop up all the stones in it, then drop them back into the pockets one-by-one as you circle the board. With just a few easy rules to follow, the object is to collect the most by the end of the game. All the pieces go back inside the game unit for easy storage. I love playing Mancala, and this is a very nice set for the price. I ended up sanding the board a little bit as it was rough in some places and I wanted the pits to be a little deeper. I’ve played on boards that had shallow pits and oversized gem stones, which makes it difficult to keep all of the stones from falling out. These stones are a good size and the holes or pits were average depth. The board sits level when in the open position, which I was concerned about as I’ve never had a board with this type of hinge. It’s attractive and practical and I would recommend.

Love the different color rocks, good quality wood used to make the board. All the rocks fit into the fold-up wood board. Kids enjoy this game so much. Wish there was some type of hook to keep the board closed when not in use

We bought this because we originally were gifted the kids version with little animals (which we loved). Unfortunately, the hinges on that game broke so we needed a replacement. This game came with a ziplock bag to store the pebbles and the box is SO compact that the items inside fit just perfectly! Extra large bulky boxes are so frustrating. Would totally buy this again!

I read the reviews of many Mancala games. This was the least expensive but since Amazon reviews seem a bit off, I was worried and knew I could return it. There's no magnet, no lock but the set is fabulous and I have no complaints. We've played 2-3 games when we sit to play it. Glass or plastic "beads" are fine. I don't see wear yet. We knew basic rules and the instructions that come with the set are written well. I complain a lot :) but I like the construction of the set and no lock - no problem, put glass pieces in the game set and put it in the cardboard box.

This is a good version of the Mancala game. I bought this one for myself after buying the game for two others. The instructions are clearly written and printed.

Hi, the products description says product comes with 48 glass beads. But there's no beads at all. Only the board. I wrote in to request for the beads but there's no response.
