For night diving, we let it (tied to an extra lead weight) 'float' at a certain depth, say 30 feet. Upon return, this makes us comfortable we'll be able to find our way back. It blinks at a comfortable rate...about once a second and is visible a long way off. No way I'd want this attached to my BCD>..too distracting. THe twist on/twist off I don't like but I keep the orings well lubed, and check it once I'm out of the water. A single battery lasts for a weeks worth of night diving which is nice. I'd buy it again in a minute and a bunch of my friends have asked me where I got it.

Great market light for other divers have visibility of you. I've placed mine on my back at the top of the BCD and it works great.

I don't intend to use this as a personal dive beacon. I think it would be far too bright/distracting to have it attached to me while swimming at night with a group. But that said, it IS very bright, and it should work perfectly for nighttime shore diving (in reasonably clear water) to mark the dive entry/exit point. (At the time of writing this review, I have not yet used it "in situ" but will add an edit later if there is further useful info to share.)It is positively buoyant, so it should work perfectly for adding a thin cord with a weight to anchor it on the seafloor and keep it suspended mid-water. A minor design flaw is that the LED is directional, and the cone is not frosted enough to catch much of the light, so the strobe is much less bright when viewed from the side. A simple fix for this was to push a white piece of foam into the cone (a cotton ball will also work). This gives the bright light something to "bounce" off of and makes it much more visible from any direction. This light was pretty much a perfect fit for my application. (Seems like it could have been priced closer to $20, however.)

I am a kayaker and also a hiker. This beacon light is a great safety item and I have added it to the 10-Essentials for both my dry bag and my backpack.

Single triple A battery lasts pretty good, still bright after :80 minutes, using it as my anchor strobe, lashed a stainless chain loop to it for weight, i wish the cone was more reflective to the sides like a traditional strobe, but still served its purpose well

I bought this light to find my entrance for scuba diving. Plenty bright. I am sure would also work as an emergency beacon for water sports.

I bought this as a replacement for an old strobe with a cracked housing. The unit I received from amazon did not work, even with a fresh battery and after some fiddling with its innards. I took advance of Princeton Tec's warranty, and invested an addition $5 in sending it back for "repair". They sent me a new one that didn't work, either. It flashed once - briefly - the first time I twisted the housing down, but that seems to have been its swan song. You might get lucky and get a random one that works, or you might not. I'm zero for two.

In conditions of poor to non-existent visibility this strobe does an excellent job of enabling divers to maintain buddy contact and of providing a beacon to bring divers back to the starting point. Durable, lightweight and unobtrusive it is should be part of every diver's kit on night dives or dives in poor visibility.

Item looked normal on arrival. But when I tried to use it in water, strobe didn't start working after tightening of the cap as it should.Since that happen during pre-dive sequence, spare strobe was deployed and this item was stored away. After two consecutive dives with maximum depth 23m this strobe returned back home, where I realized I cannot unscrew the cap any more. Even using vice-grip.For some reason, I cannot return item or ask for refund. Not happy.

Bought this to replace my previous Princeton Tec Aqua Strobe. It had stopped working. It was a Xenon bulb style. The only issue with the new LED style, is the fact that the LED wafer is sitting flat and reduces the amount of light seen when the light is floating vertically from the back of your scuba tank. I painted the outer half of the lens (inside) with some white acrylic craft paint. This increased the visibility to other divers greatly. Great product.

Ideal para quem faz atividades de aventura e resgate. Bom brilho e duração. Poderia durar mais, mas aguenta 12h e pouco.
