As the gage goes up beyond 18ga, the holes remain the same diameter. They do not convey actual wire size.

I have an older, high quality version of these, so I got these as kind of "disposable" spares to carry around with me. The wire gauge is accurate enough for me to identify ordinary 10, 12, and 14ga for residential use, but I haven't tested the rest of the sizes. The metal gauge is about the same as any I've used, so it's fine for my needs.Overall okay. They are budget, but seem well enough made. Okay as spares, or the sort of think that if I lost it, my heart wouldn't break.

As an electrical professional and hobbyist, this is the sort of tool that will aid in determining exactly what size wire I am using. I can generally just look at a wire and know what size it is, but every once in a while, I need to determine the size and this will be a great help. For those of you that cannot identify wire size quickly, this sure will be helpful. They also include a metal thickness gauge (2) that are designed as a key chain. They really were not needed because the wire gauge can be used to determine metal thickness by using the measurements on the back of the wire gauge.Included are the wire gauge, 2 metal thickness gauge and a decent pouch to store them all in. No instructions are included so if you do not know how to use one, just do a search as there are a number of places with this information.Best of all, the price is quite reasonable. yes, I like mine..

While the ruler like gauge piece is close to accurate, the wheel is definitely not. My tattoo shop does not stock 20 gauge flatback jewelry, but the gauge wheel indicated my jewelry was 20 gauge. I will likely be returning it.
