After vowing never to fly with my 8D's stock flat case again, I was about to drop $525 on a Marcus Bonna MB-8. Then, I saw this new design from Pro Tec that's very similar at roughly half the price. My initial impressions are very positive! It's pretty lightweight (especially considering it's wood instead of fiberglass), has an array of carry options (top handle, side handle, shoulder strap, or optional backpack straps), and a pretty flexible inside configuration. It comes with a 3 mouthpiece pouch, a drawstring bag for a straight mute, and a zippered pouch for a stop mute (all are movable within the case). There's also a soft removable base that sits under the bell flare and sandwiches it against the lid to protect it from anything loose that might be rolling around in the case (there's still some room around the bell for a small tool bag, stand light, etc.) The front zippered music pouch is generously sized, and easily fits a couple of full-size music folders, a notebook, and a bag of other random tools and stuff. Getting the horn in and out is pretty easy with a velcro strap to secure the body, though I have to be careful when opening the lid, as the bell flare base does catch on it sometimes.My first trip with this one is coming up soon- for once I can't wait!Pros:- Pretty beefy construction, but much lighter-weight than stock 8D flat case.- Includes both straight and stop mute pouches- Zippered music pouch is big enough to hold several full-size music folders and other stuff too- Lots of carry options- Optional backpack straps are quite comfortable- Plenty of room for mutes, tools, etc.- Great value for $Cons:- Can be a bit involved to open/close (handle closure velcro, case flap velcro, two zippers).- The vertical position is a little tippy (stands on its own with the feet, but tips over *very* easily on the short side).UPDATE:I'm still in love with this case after traveling with it. The backpack straps and shoulder strap were a godsend for getting around in the airport and various other transportation. I figured I'd remove the straps when I wasn't traveling with it (since they make it a little tippy to load/unload when the horn body's not weighing it down), but they're fantastic for getting to and from the car, too. It fit easily in the tiny overhead of a smallish puddle-jumper plane (no gate check for me!), as well as the overhead shelves on the shuttle buses I rode. Way to knock this one out of the park, ProTec!

Great case! Very similar in design to the Cardo case. Considering the price this is a steal. Quality seems pretty standard on first opening. Fit's my Hans Hoyer G10 which is a large wrapped horn so this case can fit anything. Lots of customization options for fitting accessories into your bag. I'm able to fit a straight mute easily and can have room for a stopped mute too if I so chose. The pocket on the front is spacious and can fit any size music folder. It also will fit into the overhead of most jet liners.

Ok, I am returning this case because my Conn 8D does not fit. The bell sticks up too much and does not allow the case to zip closed. I'm really bummed because I love it - it's great quality, tons of room, etc. The only negative I can see is the weight - I noticed right away when taking it out of the box that it was pretty heavy, before I even tried putting my horn in. But overall, if you have a smaller horn, this case would be great.Oh, and one side note - my Conn 8D is an old one that I had made into a removable bell horn. So, there is a chance that other Conn 8Ds will fit, if the bell is not as "tall." I'm not sure. But the bell "form" that comes with the case was just plain too small for my bell. Very disappointing.

Found a MASSIVE deal on this case. Guess someone returned it and I managed to get it brand new at $150.Aside from the giant discount, AMAZZZING case. Fits my Yamaha 764 well.

My daughter's horn teacher recommended this case, and she had good testimonials from other students who had shopped around and decided on this case. It provides better protection that the hard case that came with my daughter's Conn 8D (circa 1990s), and it so much more portable and convenient when bringing to practices, rehearsals, trips, and school. Her horn fits snugly.; no movement.She hasn't carried on a plane yet, but it's worth noting that she can keep it in a school band room locker unlike the bulky Conn case which she had to leave on the floor.A tip for first-time use: When we got the case, a friend tried to help my daughter fit her horn into the case, but they couldn't make it happen and told me it wouldn't fit. When I looked at it, I saw something that they didn't realize--that all the internal fitting pieces are movable. Those pieces are so tightly secured by Velcro that they thought they were permanently in place.

The case is a bit heavier than I thought it would be. I have a light weight Paxman 27 ML (Geyer wrap) horn that fits fine in the deluxe model, but it's snug. I don't like the interior clip strap that goes over the body if the horn to hold it in place. I expected a velcro strap with soft padding. The mute bag is getting the way. I'm not sure where a mute would fit. I'll try to slip it in and see what happens. I have to squeeze it shut to pull the zippers around to close it.Update 12/5/24I have used the case since 2018 and it is better than my first impression above. A small red and white mute fits fine inside. A large premium mute does not. I put a cloth over my horn before strapping it in. Be careful the mouthpiece is secured before closing. Once my mouthpiece moved and dented my horn somehow. My fault. The case has held up well. The outside pocket for music is awesome. I recommend this horn case!

This case is very well built, especially at the price. At first I was concerned this would be rough on the bell. Well, after packing it all together I am very pleased. The cushioning is great.

A really sturdy case, but I find as a woman (5'9" ) it is too long in back pack form for me, anyone smaller would really struggle with balance wearing this case. However, it's a big improvement over my last case and the storage is great!
