Protec really upped it game in the last several years. I can only speak of the wood wind cases the (saxophone clarinet and flute) They have gotten stronger, lighter (well-made with quality materials). They are successfully competing with the more artisan style cases that are usually way out of my price range. Bravo Protec keep it up.

Very compact, & hard sided, not cloth so it can easily be cleaned & won’t rip or wear out like a cloth case! It opens 99% flat so it’s very easy to lay open as you clean & put away your instruments. It does zip so no chance of it opening if dropped accidentally. There IS room for a flute tuning rod as well not no room for the piccolo rod unfortunately but a piccolo flag may fit though, in between the sections, but I chose not to put my flag inside the case for fear of it shifting & scratching my flute so just keep that in mind. As you can see from my photos, it accommodates all types of regular piccolos. I’ve used my both my Split-E piccolo w/the bulb headjoint (in the photo) & my non Split-E w/the Tenon headjoint piccolo (not pictured) in it as well (like a Gemeinhardt 4P or 4W style). There’s also a space for cork grease, chapstick, earplugs, etc. as well!I gave 4 stars because it didn’t accommodate my piccolo tuning rod/flag & it has no handle nor pockets which I knew when ordering but I miss having a handle & storage pockets lol but other than that, it’s great!!

I bought this as a good alternative to an expensive combination flute/piccolo case. My flute and piccolo fit nicely and the case is a good weight. However, the zippers are pretty lightweight and I worry they will break and leave my instruments in danger of being damaged.
