This tester tests for water content in brake fluids. And while water content can lower the boiling point of braking fluids, it may not tell you anything about the corrosion levels happening inside the brake system. So while your fluid may pass a moisture test, it could easily have particles of copper in it which indicate corrosion is taking place. This tester doesn't measure for that.Using this to test my 3 vehicles, all 3 levels of water content were different from each other - 2.8%, 2.0%, and 1.8% is what it measured. I have no way of proving these numbers correct or not. With the results it gave, I have a fair amount of trust that they represent an close measurement of the water contents in these 3 vehicles. So it seems to accomplish what it's designed to do. For this reason alone, I give it the 5 stars. However, knowing that it doesn't give the true indication of brake fluid contamination (of copper ion levels), I do question whether the results it gives could lead to a false sense of security about a vehicles' brake fluid health. If a person simply had their brake fluid changed every 2/3 years, there'd never be a need to test or worry about the condition of it. Of course all this testing and worry disappear, if you never use your brakes very much. It's typically when brakes are used a good amount on a hot day, is when the need for new fluid can become squishily obvious.

I'm not overly impressed with the device, mainly from a user standpoint. The user interface is very clunky. Much as others have stated, if you overshoot your targeted page, you have to cycle fully through all of the pages again until you get back to the one you want. Expert mode is not all that expert. Overall, it's okay, but nothing to write home about.

This product arrived in a plastic clamshell for protection from damage, included are instructions written in both English and Chinese. This product is capable of testing the water content up to a max of 4% this percentage does not seem to increase or decrease switching between DOT3/DOT4/DOT5.1Brake fluid is recommended to be completely replaced every 12-24 months as it inhibits the ability to absorb humidity from the air, and make your braking experience quite weak. This test meter is an aide in telling you when the fluid is near it's limit. It is recommended to purchase a new unopened bottle every time you replace the fluid and not use an unsealed one sitting on the shelf. New bottles of brake fluid are suppose to have an expiration date or made on dates, as water vapor can be absorbed through it's plastic container. The best scientific data I can find indicates that the difference between each DOT rating is it's viscosity 3 being thicker 4 and 5.1 being increasingly runnier in consistency and quicker at providing compression, the end result being the more thinner the fluid the faster it absorbs water. 5.1 is mainly a race track fluid and typically gets changed daily due to this fluids rate of water absorption. On average DOT3 brake fluid is expected to absorb 1.5% of it's content as water on an annual bases in an unsealed container. Each of these fluid are made from polyethylene glycol, not to be confused with DOT5 which is incompatible with each of the three and is made from silicone. This product offer the ability to switch between DOT3, DOT4, and DOT5.1 for testing in addition to a list of vendor specific DOT4 fluids for better analysis. Each of these tests seem to cap out at 4%, I'm not sure the science on how this device particularly filters out the differences between each vendor. I tested this product on the two vehicles we own and a old bottle of fluid in the shed, all maxed out at 4%+ but also have not had fluid exchanges done on them in any recent time and are all respectively old. I did perform tests on open air, snow, and power steering fluid which came back 0%, and a bowl of water pinging at 4%+, indicating that it is capable of reading both ends of the spectrum. The only drawback being is that it would be nice to see how much water is actually present other than the 4% limit, giving an indication of possibly how long a fluid had been sitting, otherwise seems to be a great product.Product Dimensions. (Meter) 7" Long x 3" Wide x 1.25" Depth. (Probe) 10.75" Long x 12.5mm in Diameter.
