We had a metal futon frame before, and were not happy with it. This wood one works much better. It came packaged very well, and was easy to assemble, but I would recommend doing it with two people. One important thing to remember: get at least an 8" futon mattress with a foam core, because the traditional Japanese futon mattresses, which are designed to go on top of tatami mats for sleeping, are too thin for a futon being used as a couch. They will be uncomfortable and will fold forward, away from the futon frame back. Get the right mattress, and you'll be fine.
