1987 4.3L Mercruiser 205Thunderbolt 4 IgnitionI bought a used boat with no water test. It ran great on the trailer. Not so good in the water. It could barely get on plane. When it did, It couldn't get above 3800rpm and 44kph max. Tried spraying starter fluid in the intake which had no effect. This told me that fuel delivery was not the issue.Swapped out the cap and rotor. Old one had corrosion on the internal contacts. Fired the boat up and it was now idling at 1000rpm. I turned down the idle screw on the carb and checked the timing. Found it was out 4 degrees.Boat runs like a top now. Couldn't be happier.
