We are using this for a chanell selector since our TV does not have a strong receiver. We are able to pick up stations more reliably. We have an excellent antenna system except that the Antenna needs to be relocated to a more optimum site. The unit has worked well and is out performing the digital stream we have for the second TV. The record feature is simply a bonus. Yes I recommend the RCA unit since my experience with it has been positive.

Works great especially considering the price. I purchased this because the Sling OTA DVR (AirTV 2) has a terrible tuner. This DVR is also nice as it allows you to view during fast forward, Sling OTA DVR AirTV does not.

Easy operation , reliable and never gets hot. The other brand I had got hot easily and died in year. This functions much better. Love it!

Item advertised as new, it wasn't. Obvious that box had been opened and contents unpacked.

I bought one of these, and it came without the remote, which rendered it useless as a recorder since none of the recording buttons are included on the base unit. I had to contact RCA to get one, the seller would not provide a remote. RCA sent me a remote without charging me (thank you), but I am not pleased with the quality of this device's features.First, the remote is flimsy, cheap & only works if you aim it inside a very narrow area directly at the device, I can't tell you how many times I've pressed the buttons & nothing happened. Also, sometimes there is a 5-10 second time delay between pressing the button & the device responding. I am not at all pleased with the quality/efficiency of this remote, or the fact that I cannot work the DVR without it or by using any generic remote, even an RCA generic remote. Second, the on-screen commands are small & not easy to understand, the instruction book was not very helpful, I've had to learn by trial & error. Third, I have set up way too many shows to tape and they did not tape. In the beginning I set up four shows in a row to tape on the same channel, only the 2nd show taped. I tried the next week to eliminate this problem by setting up only the 1st show to tape & manually extending the end time to end 4 hours later, that didn't work, nothing but the 1st show taped. Fourth, I misplaced the only remote I have & called the help line, the man said no other remote will work on this device so I had to order a 2nd remote for $18, and when it finally came it wouldn't work, I had to order a replacement for the replacement - and the 3rd remote also does not work! (I tried exchanging the button battery of the 2nd one with the 1st one, which I had since found, but the 2nd remote is still not working & the 1st remote works with the 2nd battery, so I've concluded that the remote is defective, not the battery.) Fifth, the forward/backward up/down & OK buttons are in a different color on the remote, but they need to have raised bumps so you can feel them in the dark like every other quality remote has. They also need to be centered or in a round circle so they can be felt as different. The layout of the buttons on this remote are frankly haphazard & unprofessional & not like most remotes. Sixth, this device is a converter box, it only works on an old analog TV I still happen to have, so this recording device is absolutely useless on the newer & sharper flatscreen I have. Seventh, I cannot use this device to watch another channel while it is taping, it does not have that feature. Eighth, every time I cut this device off & back on, the volume goes all the way to the top, I have to turn the sound back down. Ninth, some buttons do double-duty, like when I am watching a taped program, I have to use the #2 to enlarge the picture to fill the whole screen, and #3 sets the program to be erased, etc. After a program is erased, the screen jumps back to the list of taped programs, but it doesn't stay at the same place, it jumps to the 2nd program on the list. I could go on.....I've given up trying to understand & work this device, I'm using it for the time being but I am saving up for a much more expensive DVR made by Channel Master, they have two versions, one with a built-in hard drive & a cheaper version that uses your own external hard drive. Hopefully, the new Channel Master antenna DVR will actually work like my old Dish DVD/remote did, it will be easy to program & won't miss any shows and the remote will be solidly and professionally made & will use AA or AAA batteries & not those button batteries that cost so much and are much harder to find. Hopefully.

I've only had this for two days so these are just initial comments. So far the box appears to operate ok although there were some recording problems . Playback of recorded video would breakup and jump every 20 to 30 seconds. This happened regardless of the selected video resolution. Formatting as FAT32 or NTFS made no significant difference for the problem. The USB drive was an "Ultra 256G 3.0 SanDisk", which is rated at 100 MB/s. I switched to a Corsair 3.0 USB drive that I already had, and the recording problem went away. So specifying a 3.0 drive is apparently not an adequate description. I should be possible to state the actual performance required for a USB drive to work ok.Also I programmed two recording events after a few experiments. The first recording happened as scheduled. The second recording did not happen even though it had appeared on the scheduled list. Have not had time to try this again. Another thing to note is that the "included A/V" cables do not include an HDMI cable. Better documentation would help ease the learning curve.

You can't record one and watch another show but it is nice because it gives you listings of what is on tv for that day for each channel and will record shows when you need. Easy set up, worth the price.

Came on works good. Had this one once already and cant brag about remote it is easily broken. I have a senior dad and tv is his lifeline but the remote slides off his lap and a 14 inch drop kills it quickly. Guess i need to find a protective cover
