Good unit. Damper works & screen is removable for cleaning. No pre-drilled holes for mounting so be aware you will need to have the capability to drill your own. Otherwise, a very sturdy unit

I used one of these vent outlets to terminate the ducting from a pop-up kitchen exhaust vent. The install was thru a brick wall and 2x6 framing plus foam insulation, so I needed to extend the attached tail pipe, but that was easy enough and plenty sturdy. The damper seems to be working well, and overall I'm very happy with this unit.The loss of a star is tied to 1) it costs more than I believe it should; 2) the animal screening that comes with it is not attached securely; and 3) there are no pre-drilled mounting holes (this is really minor). The most significant of these items is the screen, which came clunking around in the box at delivery because it really doesn't attach to anything. Yes, the spring in the screen metal with kind of hold it in place, but a squirrel could easily pop it out of the way. So the night before install, I ended up mixing up some epoxy to attach it securely. It'll be tough getting it back out now if I ever have to repair the damper, but I'll deal with that should the need arise. In the meantime, it should keep the squirrels at bay.Otherwise, it's a nice vent outlet and is working well.

This side vent is well made, has a flapper to seal it closed when not using and flows a lot of air being it is a 6" unit. The flapper stays closed even on windy days as some of the cheaper ones will flap open and closed constantly on windy days which gets irritating. overall nicely built.

I have ordered many different external vent flaps, that I have returned because of flimsy material and gravity driven vent flaps, that did not adequately close. We live in Central Oregon, an area prone to wildfire smoke. the need on any vent flap is to protect my home from cold winter temperatures, pests, and smoke. this is the best vent for the job!

The unit works well. However the screen is poorly attached. Along with not attaching to the sides.If this unit had the screen properly put together where it would slide onto the side and seal everything completely it would be worth the money... Regarding the screen it needs to be better designed.

With just a littlr modification, it fit nicely in a hard to get to location and works as it should.
