Although I am relatively new to playing the recorder, I've played several woodwind instruments in the past so I'm not a complete novice. I've been dying to try a wooden recorder but pretty much all of them are out of the range of what I can afford to spend. Then I ran across this one and after reading the reviews decided I could risk the little bit of money it cost to try it out.I'm glad I did! I wasn't expecting much, to tell the truth. I was incredibly surprised by the quality of the instrument I received. It plays well, is in tune, and hits nearly all the notes with no difficulty. The only note that ever gives me problems is the lower E note. I think it's E. I play by ear and don't know how to read music, but it's the note that is played with the first five holes and the thumb hole covered. Sometimes that one sounds a little fuzzy until the recorder warms up.I would say to anyone who wants to try a wooden recorder without having to take out a loan against your house to try this one. I am delighted with the recorder I received and am actually going to order another one to have a professional player review it.

The recorder is nicely constructed. It may be difficult to cover all of the holes properly if you have small finger pads. I play clarinet, and would recommend investing in some "cork grease" to rub around the cork joints of the instrument.

This Alto recorder has a great tone and is very in tune. If you are handy with sandpaper or a woodworker, it is easy to fix the difficulties. The fittings for each piece are very tight. They need to be sanded down just right so that they are not too loose or too tight. I also oiled the recorder as soon as I got it. It was very dry inside. Once all that was done, I think it is a very good instrument especially for the price.

I play the flute and knew thought that the recorder would be easy. But, I'm having a hard time getting a consistent "sweet" note, even fingering according to the instructions.
