IRL the shank looks twice as long as what is pictured. I will try to take a picture to illustrate this. This is my 2nd one of these. I add a Reece anti-sway bar plate for a sway bar ball which adds 3/8" plate on top of the insert. I need the extra shank. This gives me more than enough.
