Before buying this hitch ball, I read lots of the Amazon reviews. Allot of the reviews were critical of this hitch ball because it rusted. Touch a magnet to any stainless steel trailer hitch ball and it'll stick. The stainless steel material used to make these balls is a cosmetic grade that makes the ball pretty, but won't necessarily keep it from rusting. In order for the steel to retain it's strength and beauty, it is made from a 400 series stainless steel the contains a little chrome and zero nickle. Adding nickle would help make the ball rust-proof, but would also soften the ball and the ball would knick, scratch and dent. The ball I've received is beautiful with a nearly perfect surface. To preserve the ball. I remove it from my truck receiver when I'm not towing something. Even if a trailer coupler abrades the shiny surface, the cosmetic grade stainless shouldn't rust if I keep it dry. I've used the ball to tow our pontoon boat and am pretty happy with it's performance. Keeping it dry on a shelf in my garage when I'm not towing something should keep it rust free for a long time.

Will not rust. Also has the star base so fits the Reese hitch and only 1 wrench needed to tighten.

for starters it is REESE brand. Very good quality ball. It looks as new today as it did when I bought it. The flat sided feature seems to be the way to go. When you put this on a Reese hitch the raised portion of the hitch just around where you insert the ball into helps prevent the ball from turning when you put the nut on. It's a good quality ball. The only kind I will buy. I don't have any negative comments about this product.

This is a wonderful hitch ball. The design interlocks with the tongue making it very easy to apply proper torque to safely install it. Great design.
