I needed a new lock for my Ranger Boat trailer, this one works perfectly. I will say that initially the keys were tough to get into the lock, most likely from chinese manufacturing tolerances. Once I worked the keys a few times, the lock/keys worked down the rough spots, it is much better.This is a good lock to prevent someone with a grinder from easily cutting off. There isn't much space to cut the bar on the lock if you put it on tight.

The lock is good for two areas, ensuring the latch holding trailer to hitch is not accidentally or intentionally unlocked causing issues when driving down the road. The lock offers peace of mind.Thinking about a common theft there may be limited impact. Socially speaking, you can only aid in keeping the honest, well, honest. Using a lock like this could slow someone down... can also keep a person on the fence from acting in a bad way.Personally I purchased to offer peace of mind. After connecting the trailer, closing the latch on the hitch, and installing the lock, I feel good knowing the latch is secured on the hitch. To disconnect from vehicle requires an intentional act.The Reese lock works as expected. Plenty of locking points to allow use on different latches successfully. Recommended lock if you are looking for one.

I have an 18' tandem axle enclosed car hauler and had trouble finding a coupler lock to fit. The latch was 1" wide and the more compact, tight fitting locks I used on my large Airstreams were 3/4-7/8". Other longer shaft locks had large end pieces such that the coupler housing restricted use.This lock closes down fairly close to the latch making use of a bolt cutter problematic. While not quite as tight on the latch as I would like and a less massive shaft, it will discourage the casual thief. It is a Reese product, and I trust them.I will keep looking for something else with a more massive shaft and tighter fit, but for most applications this will suffice.
