For a point of reference I think of Ernie Balls (green) Regular Slinkys as my home strings. I’ve played for many decades and while I’ve experimented with other brands and gauges, including flat wounds on archtops, but I always seem to come home. That said, these Zachary strings surprised me in good ways.Installed on my Strat, tuned to A-440 in normal tuning, the tension of these strings feels noticeably stiffer than Slinkys, both wound and unwound gauges. One upside of this might be counter intuitive: while they require more effort to bend, they feel more responsive, meaning I don’t have to bend as far to get the change in pitch that I want.Another plus of higher tension strings (IMO) is, once fully stretched out, they stay in tune more reliably under aggressive picking and strumming than lighter-gauge strings.I like that these strings feel less “coated†than Slinky’s, out of the box. My initial thought was they feel like “old†Ernie Balls, but I realized that’s not correct. I’ve played other nickel strings and they have a “grip†to them that suits perhaps a more precise articulation. Unlike Slinkys (new or old) I don’t think these Zachary string lend themselves as well to playing that uses a lot of pentatonic sliding around between positions, or legato slurring in general.Their tone is somewhat darker than Slinkys, especially the low E and A. Playing them hard for a week or so would wear most of the “zing†out of Slinkys, but these strings remain consistent. I found them to be quieter when playing slide, with noticeably less extraneous noise than Slinkys. The strings come roughly bunched together in a way that reminds me of violin strings. But I like the round, numbered stickers identifying each one. They’re easy to tear off and it’s easy for my eyes to distinguish the unwound gauges in front of me without picking the strings up.Bottom Line: If you’re someone who leaves strings on a long time and likes that tone and feel, you might feel you’re getting that out of the box with these.

I’ve been playing guitar for years, and I have to say, this string kit is a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their setup without spending a fortune. The first thing I noticed about it is how smooth it feels under my fingers; the tension of the strings is just right, not too tight, but enough to give a responsive feel when you're playing both lead and rhythm. The 10-46 gauge is a perfect middle ground for most players, giving you a good balance between playability and tone. As soon as I swapped out my old strings for this set, I could tell the difference in tone—it’s bright, punchy, and not too harsh, which is perfect for my style of playing. I’ve been playing electric guitar for a while now, and I can honestly say these strings stay in tune better than many other sets I’ve tried. It might be because of the material or the way it’s coated, but it definitely holds up under heavy use, so if you're someone who practices or gigs often, these strings won’t disappoint. What’s even better is that the longevity of it is impressive. I’ve been playing regularly for a few weeks now, and they’re still holding up with minimal wear. I’ve only had to make small adjustments with the tuning once in a while, but otherwise, they’ve maintained their tone without getting dull or sticky. Changing them was a breeze too, no hassles with them slipping or being hard to install. It also has a very reliable feel on bends and slides, which is key for any player who loves to experiment with their technique. I’d definitely recommend this kit for anyone from beginners to more advanced players who want an affordable string set that won’t sacrifice quality. While there are definitely more expensive options out there, this one strikes a great balance between cost and performance.

You get 2 sets for the price of one, but I quickly found these strings do not offer the sound of my usual brand. The low "E" string sounds completely dead. It sounds as if it has years of dirt and grime on it. The other strings sound a bit brighter and more resonant but overall I am not impressed with these.

I’d never heard of Zachary strings before, but for around $10 for a two-pack (about $5 per set, even less with the discount), I figured why not? I’ve played a ton of different strings over the years, and while I mostly stick with Ernie Ball, DR, D’Addario, or Stringjoy, I like to test out different brands—especially for my extra guitars that aren’t in my main rotation. Restringing them is a good way to get more playtime in and see how different strings feel and respond.Out of the pack, these have a smooth, lightweight feel with no rough spots on the wound strings, and they’ve got a nice snap without being too stiff. They hold tuning well, bends feel natural, and slides move cleanly without drag. Intonation is solid, and they settle in quickly. Tonally, they have a balanced sound—not too bright, not too warm—just a neutral, clear tone that works well for most styles. They don’t have the harmonic depth or liveliness of something like Stringjoy or DR, but they also don’t sound flat or dull. There’s enough presence to keep things articulate without feeling harsh. For the price, they’re definitely a solid choice. They’re not replacing my go-to brands, but they hold up better than a lot of budget strings I’ve tried. If you need an affordable set for extra guitars, regular practice, or just experimenting with different brands, these are worth a try!

These seem to be nicely made, and they have a good feel to them. The wound strings have a smoother feel than non-coated strings. Still, I can't really tell by looking that there is a coating. I am also not having any issues with intonation. It is amazing how the gap has closed between the famous brand strings and the lesser known. I am perfectly happy with these.
