What I really like most about this chess board is you can fold it, ball it up, crumple it, whatever, and it always lays flat. I do miss being able to slide pieces like you can on a vinyl board, but the portability of this silicone board is fantastic.

It's very big, feels weird to touch it but that's just silicone for you, also came with minor scratches and marks but nothing at all really. Very easy to store, and hopefully to clean too because hairs and little crumbs stick to it.

Newly out of the box and protective wrapper, the "new" silicone chess board from The House of Staunton had circular spot stains on multiple squares as if created by acid drops. This doesn't appear to be a reversible condition. I was expecting a higher quality product. Otherwise the silicone board folds and unfolds well without retaining the creases that would likely be retained by a vinyl board. Typical chess pieces don't slide as smoothly on silicone as they do on vinyl, but that was expected. Overall, I expect a new board shouldn't have permanent circular stains on its squares.

Nicer look and feel than vinyl. The surface, however, has more friction than vinyl, causing dust, stray hairs, whatever, stick to it while it is spread out. It’s easily cleaned with a damp cloth, but you can’t simply brush away a piece of lint that happens to land on it while you are playing.

These US Chess Silicone boards are the BEST. Unlike some less expensive boards, these lie flat. No bumps. No ridges. No wrinkles. And the printing is sharp.I have two of these boards now. I bought my first one over two years ago and it still looks as good as new.
