I have a 24" DW bass drum so I purchased the 22" muffle for the batter head and the 18" for the front head. I use the May micing system with no hole in the front head. The front head is tuned higher than the batter head (using ). Very happy with the result. I recommend ditching the velcro and using metal straping from the hardware store under the lug screws to hold these in place. You can make much more effective straps. This way you can transport the drum without worrying about anything moving inside the drum.

The drummer in my band was having a problem conrolling the bass drum level. He claimed the bass drum was intrinsically too loud. Rather than than argue with him, I opened the drum and installed this muffler. It worked. What else can I say?

I've normally been someone who left the kick wide open (Bonham fan), but in live/miked situations this appeases the sound men and doesn't sacrifice too much in terms of resonance.
