I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this toy. It does everything it says it does; you can use a remote control to move it, rotate it, and activate its smoke, horn, lights, and sounds. The controls take a little getting used to, but once you do they're fun to use (it took us a while to figure out to press the 'key' icon to start everything up).Most of the reservations I have about the product are minor or easily avoidable. The first thing I'd make sure if that your child is old enough to use it, and to not leave children unattended with it. The motor is pretty powerful and the vehicle heavy enough that a child could do a fairly good amount of damage to the house or to himself if you're not careful.The other slight gripe I have is that the whole thing is made of plastic except for the shovel, which is metal. A few pieces are already discolored from being nicked, and I don't expect this thing to be able to withstand getting a lot of dirt of sand in it. Also, the digger only goes in a continuous cycle (you can't independently control the arm or the shovel, which might frustrate some kids).That said, the controls are responsive, the motor is strong, and the details are pretty impressive. I definitely recommend it for older kids interested in RC toys.

I initially purchased this excavator for my two year old, assuming his older brothers (10 and 13) would likely play with it more. My toddler LOVES this excavator. He loves having the ability to use the controller to move it all around and he's pleased with everything it can do. The addition of steam is something he also didn't expect and really enjoys. The excavator design is pretty good, allowing it move in almost any direction and allowing it to automatically pick up objects. He can be a bit aggressive in picking up the excavator and making it fall a few feet on the ground, from a table, but overall it's held up incredibly well. Since this is recommended for an older aged child I would say durability is great since it's outlasting my toddler's antics. Not only does my toddler love this toy, but my older toys have begged me to get them similar, if not identical ones. Overall this is a really good, quality electronic toy that any aged child / adult will enjoy, at a really good price (currently $35).

This remote control excavator will keep your kiddo occupied for a while! The remote control was easy to use and the excavator really moves dirt and stuff around. The kids have hours of endless fun with this toy. It is great for hand eye coordination and also allows for creativity while playing with it. Everything seems to be durable and solidly made. Our kiddos absolutely love it!

In the RC industry, a channel refers to a motion channel, NOT a sound effect or lights. 'Full Motion' refers to complete control of the motion, NOT some automatic 'digging effect'. There is no control of the digger arm with this product. You can't raise and lower it, you can't scoop, etc. It has one button that scoops for you, and you have no way to control the scoop. They need to tell the truth and call this a 3 channel toy, and they need to make the age 3 and under, because any boy older than that will want to actually control the toy... not press one button and watch the toy control itself. This was a big let down. Don't waste your money on it.

This is a great gift idea if you are looking. The RC body rotates and the boom flexes and extends while the bucket scoops. It looks very realistic. The bucket can scoop dirt or sand. Do not recommend trying to dig or lift heavy objects. The tracks drive forward and backwards. The quality seems to be ok but cannot speak to the durability of at as we have only had it for a few weeks.

The reason I gave this three stars is that the instructions are very vague, as well as not really able to dig even soft dirt, but is still a great deal of fun for us "big kids." I wasn't able to get it working at first and had to contact help, but still no luck until seeing a key icon on the remote. Before that, I was only getting the pairing sound, but it wouldn't move.I finally tried pushing the key icon and suddenly it came to life! I couldn't stop playing with it as the diesel sound started like real thing, lights came on, "steam" coming out, and so many controls to use! Excellent for older, or "big kids" to have who enjoy trucks and heavy equipment because of the realism and control, but not really for 11 and younger because they are generally harder on toys and wouldn't like that it doesn't really dig, but can scoop loose dirt and load a scale dump truck or truck bed.
