I am an avid DIY person, and have a whole shop full of tools. My cordless drill is probably my favorite. But I never heard of a tapered drill bit before. After watching a you tube about drilling into hardwood through pocket holes made by using a Kreg jig, pre drilling the hardwood holes, even when using self drilling screws, made sense to me, to increase the probability of not splitting the wood . The you tube mentioned tapered drill bits so I went hunting and found these. I gather they are often used for other purposes but they worked for me on this. Of course the head of the drill chuck got in the way when trying to slide the drill bit into the pocket hole, but I added a magnetic bit holder to extend the shaft and it seemed to work. I am not sure why a tapered bit might be better than a regular bit, especially a 4 inch long bit, which could easily slide into the hole and drill into the receiving piece of wood more easily. But why argue with success? I have two more pieces to attach and I’m going to keep using this but.

product review .i gave them four stars for the price .in actual use though i broke all three very quikly . they are not holding up as long as my originals by any stretch .

Bought these to replace broken ones from a DeWalt kit. They fit the old countersink collars, and work great. I've used them on hard wood, plywood, and MDF so far and am still on the first bit out of the 3 pack. Good bits for pilot holes in wood.

This was a good buy for the often breaking bits used in the Rockler countersink set. When buying items like this, its a crap shoot if it'll work. These did, at least they fir where my broken one was.The original bit has a flat spot when the set screw bites down, bit its not a necessity and the price was right here for the set of 3. I got backups now.Have used the new bit a couple times and so far, so good.
