This is a solid benchtop jointer. The 8" width and helical cutters set it apart from most benchtops models. The fence is adjustable, but like most benchtop units lacks micro adjustments and other bells and whistles you would find on a floor standing model. I think it's a good jointer for most DYIers. If you want something better, I think you'll have to go to a full-size floor standing model which I don't have the room for. Also, my unit arrived with minor damage to part of the fence, the company immediately sent me a replacement and was very responsive.

this is the 2nd best jointer i've ever used. the best cost about $20,000, and it's only advantage was a much longer and wider bed. i have no criticism of my Rikon. it is superb. its bed is wide enough and long enough for almost all my needs. perhaps once a year i might need to use a friend's long bed (but less accurate) jointer. i set it for just about the smallest cut possible, and make multiple passes. this is the best use of the machine for me, as I'm never in a rush. i've not even tried it with a deeper cut.
