I haven't owned a straight stereo receiver for almost 30 years! Thoroughly embraced surround sound and owned several SS setups over the years. With advent of the soundbar/subwoofer set ups making the SS receivers almost obsolete my thoughts circled back to what I was missing in SS set ups: excellent stereo sound. So with my mind made up to move away from SS receivers I started searching for a solid stereo receiver. I have always been partial to Yamaha receivers so my search started and ended there. Looked at the R-N800A unit first, liked everything about EXCEPT it did not offer line input setup that could accommodate a tape recorder set up. I know, who still uses tape recorders? Some of us still love the reel-to-reel format. The R-N600A offers just such a line level input and the 80 watt output would be more than enough to power my speakers. Amazon offered a discounted Prime Days sale on the 600 unit so I jumped on it. It arrived quickly and I had it completely set up in 30 minutes! Wow, the sound is amazing, deep, well defined bass and great highs. Really breathed new life into my CDs. All in all this was an excellent choice in terms of value and the full deep, sound really makes me enjoy playing CDs again. I would readily recommend this unit to anyone looking for a unit that has great sound AND offers all the streaming options (BT, net radio, musiccast, Sirius, etc.) anyone could want. Great value.

This is a fantastic receiver. Truly a case of vintage meets modern. If you're a minimalist and want a simple machine with buttons and dials - then this is for you. However, it can also be controlled via a remote control, via an Android/Apple app, and has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity as well.BUILD QUALITY is phenomenal. This is not your typical amazon purchase. The front is made of a thick plate of actual brushed metal, and looks super classy, just like those old vintage receivers of the 70s. The knobs and buttons are sturdy and have nice feedback / clicks when operating them. This thing weighs a ton, and sports heavy duty internal components. The connectors and terminals on the back are also very high quality, sturdy, and everything fits together with a nice tight connection. I have no doubt that this amp will last 50+ years just like some of the high-end vintage stuff has.SOUND is excellent. I paired it with two Jamo S 809 speakers and a Jamo S 810 subwoofer. This system really rocks and has enough power to blow you away. I typically run the volume at about half which is good for TV and casual music listening. When rocking out I might go to about 2/3 volume which is really loud. The volume dial is subtle, so you can give it a generous turn and fine tune the volume without it suddenly getting too loud or too quiet. Everything sounds very clear and detailed at any volume level. This is such a high-end detail that I've never experienced before - even when the volume is whisper quiet, you can still hear full bass and highs, and subtle little details in the music. The bass and treble controls are also very subtle, but effective, so you can fine tune your music and make it sound natural in your room. If you're coming from computer speakers, soundbars, boom boxes, etc. then this system will absolutely blow you away and open your ears to a whole new world of sound. Previously I was using some Edifier 1280DB speakers. Those are great little speakers, but a high-end system like this will shock you when you hear how much different it sounds.TURNTABLE input is also fantastic. I know it seems impossible, but somehow this makes vinyl records sound almost as clear as CD quality. When I first dropped the needle I thought the system was not on, because of how silent the blank edge of the record was, when normally I expect a bunch of static/hiss. Then the music came in and the vinyl sounded crystal clear - and I do mean crystal clear. Yes there are still clicks, pops, scratches in the vinyl, but somehow everything just sounds better. I guess that's why it's called "Hi-Fi".INPUTS are all well-appointed. 2 coaxials, 2 opticals, several RCAs, plus Bluetooth, and various Wi-Fi/Ethernet protocols means you can connect virtually everything in your house to this. Another little detail I love is that you can normalize the volume of each input, so that the volume is consistent when switching sources. For example I have the turntable +6dB higher and that makes it match the level of my FLAC files so I don't have to crank up/down the volume when changing sources. The MusicCast app is fantastic, as it lets you browse a NAS / DLNA server on your phone and queue up songs on the receiver, similar to how Spotify Connect or "casting" works. Once an album is queued up on the Yamaha, you can completely close the app and even turn off your phone if you want, as it hands off the functionality to the receiver. I love how that works, as it gives you an "offline" sort of experience. You can then use the remote control to pause and skip songs (or you can open the app back up). The receiver can also browse the DLNA server itself without the app, using the buttons and dials on the unit. I love that as well because sometimes you don't want to fiddle with your phone. The FM radio also works great, and also sounds phenomenal compared to the radio in my car.If you're a minimalist who likes the simplicity of vintage gear, but wants modern connections like Optical, Bluetooth, streaming services, and a DLNA server, then this is the amp for you. There really are not too many settings or things that need configured on this amp - simply plug it in and start playing. I was debating between this or a home theater setup - the home theaters seem to be significantly more complex, rely on on-screen settings menus to do anything, and basically become a brick in 5 years whenever the HDMI spec changes. This receiver seems to have a significantly higher build quality than the home theaters I looked at in stores. Even if the streaming functionality or Wi-Fi becomes outdated 20, 30 years in the future, this amp will still have standard hardwire connections (RCA, optical, ethernet) and can remain functional. You can tell they built this thing to last. This is more expensive than the average product you'd find at Walmart or Target, but I do feel that I am getting every dollar's worth. The sound is phenomenal, it's easy to operate, it is built like a tank, it looks great, and it has all those little details that speak to the quality of workmanship.

Excellent stereo receiver. I primarily got it to play my vinyl records and CDs. The Bluetooth and wireless functions with Pandora and Spotify are great, too. Great frequency range! I have the receiver tied in with my old Klipsch tower speakers, and it sounds fantastic. My turntable (also from Amazon) is the direct-drive turntable AT-LP120XUSB Audio-Technica.

I don't know about this. I based my purchase on other reviews, and Yamaha's reputation. Here's my take: At this price point, I expected metal knobs, they're plastic. I expected a weighted volume control, it isn't. You have to download an app for it to connect to Bluetooth, instead of a direct connection, I have enough apps on my phone. Sometimes it takes 2 or three tries to connect to Bluetooth, even if I'm standing right next to it, and it isn't the phone. I have a Samsung S24 Ultra, and it connects to all my other devices without any trouble. I use Youtube Premium for my music streaming, if anyone cares. There is a slight, but distinct background hiss, that I do not have when I am streaming music through my Vizio soundbar and subwoofer...could be the speakers. I have this in a 40' fifth wheel, I expected to be able to blow the windows out of it or at least rattle them a bit if I chose to, it doesn't. I have it connected to 6 Herdio 320 watt passive ceiling speakers, 4 on one channel, and two on the other...maybe it's the speakers, I dunno, choices for decent ceiling speakers are limited. You cannot use this with a passive subwoofer (one that has regular pos. neg. speaker wire connections.) I have a new Dayton upright 4 speaker sub. I like it because I am limited for floor space. The one thing that I do like is it will tell you if your wiring is messed up. It told me "Check wiring," so I played around with the wires for about an hour, and it ended up being a bad speaker. I have an old school Onkyo, in storage, that I know works fine, and is loud as crap. I'm going to hook that one up and see if there is any better performance. I will update my review. The new Herdio speaker being bad is concerning, the speakers may be the problem. I will edit my review and let you know the results, after I get it over here and hooked up.
