S8 12/1/2024Q5+ 7/12/23S4 Max 8/18/21This is a consolidated review of the Roborock S4 Max purchased August 18, 2021 (3-1/2 years ago), the Q5+ with Self-empty dock purchased July 12, 2023 (1-1/2 years ago) and the S8 purchased December 1, 2024 (3 months ago). I purchased the S4 during Covid, partially because I was noticing the dust around the house more since I was home all the time, and partially because I wanted to see if a robo-vacuum was a waste of money or not. I became a convert in the first week, as the S4 worked its way around the house, hoovering up light dust which immediately reduced dust motes floating in the air. It worked perfectly on hardwood and tile floors, acceptably on the stiff carpet pile in the bedrooms, but struggled with the plush carpet in the living room and heavy throw rugs. I put it on a schedule and other than spending 5 minutes every other day to dump the dust bin, it was perfect. I then started taking it downstairs, where it would spend an hour scooting around picking up the dust. Every couple of weeks I'd wipe it down and clean the sensors, and whenever it told me I'd replace the filter and brushes. I pulled out the regular vaccum cleaner once a month rather weekly. After a couple of months, what was noticeable was that my wife's and my allergies had decreased significantly. Also, instead of seeing a spider once or twice a week, it became a once every 3 months situation. Big win. While there were clear benefits, I figured that it probably wasn't going to be cost-effective - I expected the S4 Max to die pretty quickly since it was in use 3-5 days a week. A year went by and I knew that as soon as the S4 Max died I'd get a replacement. Another year went by with no signs of it giving up and I convinced myself that getting a new one for downstairs would be worthwhile - save my time carrying one upstairs and downstairs. Yes, laziness was a factor. I chose the Q5+ with self-emptying dock so I wouldn't need to deal with the dust bin. It now operates autonomously downstairs, vacuuming the entire downstairs 3 times a week, and I only need to replace the dust bag in the dock every other month. Three years after buying the S4 Max it seemed like the suction power was decreasing, and I was expecting it to fail at any time, so I researched the latest models and bought the S8 in December 2024. While I like the convenience of the self-emptying dock, in our upstairs (main living space) I like to get an idea of what is being vacuumed up. I was going to recycle the S4 Max, but then decided to keep it running along with the S8 for comparative purposes.I will say that, hands down, the S4 Max has been outstanding from a reliability and ease of use perspective. While they all essentially have the same form factor, the S4 Max manages to slip under furniture that defeats the Q5+ and the S8. The dustbin on the S4 Max also excels (I never thought I'd write a sentence like that). You pop it open, dump the dust and lint out, and you're done. The S8 dustbin has cross bars and braces that trap hair and lint, side ledges that hold onto dust, and a really efficient dust filter that needs to be brushed after each use since the dust cakes onto it. I'd guess that the S8 was specifically designed for use with a self-cleaning dock, but they made the decision to make a manual version as well. Implementation wasn't perfect. That said, the S8 has fantastic vacuuming power. For fun, I've had it vacuum the same room after the S4 Max, and it picks up a lot more that was missed. It is also significantly faster, covering the same rooms about 25% faster than the S4 Max. However, it is more "cautious" than the S4 Max and will not go under some furniture which the S4 Max handles well. I appreciate the Q5+ with self emptying dock. It just operates autonomously, keeping my downstairs dust (and spider) free. The only hiccup is that the side brush has started coming off every couple of weeks. Not quite sure what is going on, since I haven't had that issue with the S4 Max or the S8, but it is an additional maintenance step. The only thing that would make the Q5+ better would be a notification that the dust bag in the dock needs to be changed. Overall, the Roborock vacuums have exceeded my expectations for robo-vacuums. They have definitely improved quality of life by reducing dust in the house, and reduced the amount of time that needs to be spent dusting and vacuuming.

I have two German Shepard dogs and a cat. This robot vacuum is hands down the best vacuum I’ve purchased for dog hair. You can look at my floors and it truly feels like I don’t have two long haired dogs that shed profusely. I run the vacuum everyday. The most I have to do is empty the tray and refill the mop solution daily. Literally takes 5 minutes out of my day and my floors look amazing. The mapping features are excellent and the ability to configure no-go zones makes it easy to avoid the vacuum getting jammed. If you don’t have shedding dogs you might not have to empty daily. I don’t have the self-emptying bin only because I wasn’t sure how successful it would be with emptying the long dog hair. When I empty the tray daily, it’s literally filled to the brim with hair. It just shows how much my dogs shed and how much work this robot truly does for me and my sanity because I am a clean freak. I love this vacuum. The app automatically lets you know when and what areas to service on the vacuum. Also replacement parts are easy to order and if there is a jam (I have kids who leave things everywhere) it’s super easy and user friendly to take apart and put back together. I’ve had to order new rollers because of my kids toys getting jammed and damaging the rubber in the rollers. But other than that I feel like the normal wear and tear is reasonable and the replacement parts decently priced. I’ve been using this vacuum daily for almost a year now and it is still running great. Keep up with minimal routine maintenance and this will be an investment to your daily cleaning routine. As for cleaning solution I use a self-diluted solution of Mr. Clean Multi-Surface Cleaner and it works great and hasn’t clogged the tubing at all. Highly recommend!

We've had the S7 now for 13 months and it continues to run strong. The Roborock replaced a Euffy 11S whiich was a decent entry level robot vac for the money. We have 2 Ragdoll cats and a short-haired, 30 lb dog. The house is a single-floor ranch at 2200 sq ft., and hardwood floors throughout except for the bathrooms with a few area carpets. This robot can easily finish the entire house when vacuuming on a single charge in about 2 hours. When vacuuming and mopping we get about 2 hours and the robot has to dock to recharge and finish the last room after a recharge. We mop the house typically 2 or 3 times a week. We have several extra mop heads and we clean them in the washer so we always start mopping with a clean mop. The rubber brushless beater works great for us. I only have to clean the machine once a week and we vacuum every day. This beater bar makes sense for us since we have hardwood floors througout the house. With the Euffy and the traditional beater bar, we had to cut the long cat hair tangled in the bar after every use. The LIDAR navigation on the robot is excellent. It covers the every square inch of the house every time. Now for just a couple of cons: We replaced an area rug that had a dark border. The vacuum thinks it's going of a cliff so it will avoid it. This seems to be an issue with all robots that have these sensors under the vacuum. This was a problem with the Eufy as well. It was worth it for us to replace the carpet since the vacuum makes our lives so much easier. We prefer this beater bar since the Ragdoll cat hair doesn't tangle around it, but it doesn't pull that hair out as well as a traditional beater bar. So we use a traditional corded vacuum for the area carpets once a week. I think we would do that either way since I don't believe any robot could truly lift all the cat hair out of our area rugs. So if you have more carpet than hard surfaces maybe look for a different model. Also if you have white area rugs the mop once dirty will make the edges of the carpet dirty also. Our solution for this is to place our white shower mat over the edge of the tub when we're not using it to keep it from getting mopped. The bottom line is we love this robot. It keeps our floors looking clean and the pet hair under control. We also added the auto-empty dock and that works awesome as well. We purchased one for our son and have recommended it to family and friends.

I have a big dog who sprinkles its glitter everywhere. After a long research, I thought maybe I would buy one with a strong vacuum without a mop function. But this mop is quite good. My floor is very light grey epoxy and any paw print will be visible. This sonic mop can get rid of quite tough stains. Some stains I have to use steam mop but so far it is good.Pros:- The mop function works surprisingly well.- The suction power is quite powerful. It comes with many different levels of power.Cons:- The dust bin is quite small.- The water tank can be bigger.- You receive only one mopping pad but you definitely need more. And you cannot buy the official replacement items, although you need to replace some items on a regular basis.- If you have multiple floors with a different wifi name, you can only save one. It does not automatically recognise another one and connect it.- Battery life: I live in a 4 bedroom villa and I cannot do the whole house in one go. The battery last only for one floor and it takes some time to recharge.Despite these cons, I am happy that I have this machine. I can definitely think of something better next time but for now, it does the wonder. If you have a dog/cat, this is a good one.

We used it 3 times. So far it did very good job in both, vacuuming and mobbing.Would be great if Roborock start to produce the vacuum/clean station for the S8 base model as an additional option in case customers want to add it later.
