The pressure-equalization system, including ink helix is part of the ink cartridge which ensures that every time you change the cartridge, you get a clean new ink helix. This means that you never need to clean the ink helix and top reliability is guaranteed.

As a pre-teen and then a teenager, I owned technical drawing pens similar to the Rotring Rapidograph. It has been decades since then, the market for these types of products has shrunk considerably, but the Rotring Rapidograph is a huge design improvement over similar pens sold decades ago. And for anyone who used these type of pens previously and is now returning to them, I think you will find them a joy. I like this one so much I will be buying a set of three (which will have three different nib sizes) later on.These pens use cartridges. You do not have to mess with funnels or load ink using any kind of procedure that might result in the spillage of ink. This particular product has a built-in nib remover as well as a built-in design that loads and readies the cartridge for immediate usage.

These pens are getting harder and harder to come by, as CAD technology pushes out hand drafting methods.The pen works fine, and is a welcome addition to my desk collection..

This pen writes well, but the barrel is made of brittle plastic and will split easily if it is over-tightened. A stronger plastic or optional metal barrel is a necessary improvement. Higher quality replacement barrels should be made available.

Draws great - but either you don't put the cap on the other end while you draw and who knows if you'll find it again - or it wobbles and falls off anyway. Seems like a small deal but it's SO annoying and you should spend all your time drawing instead of distracted by this out of balance cap dangling on the end. They got everything else but couldn't engineer the plastic cap?

Due to procrastination, I never took action and tried to send it back, but the pen's ink had been overflowing from the beginning. I did google it and tried to clean it up and keep it horizontal, but nothing fixed the issue.

Remember these pens from technical drawing days back at school and the great quality of them.They are an exquisite example of German engineering and built to last forever. Admittedly I am no artist or technical draftsman, but the pen makes a great job of filling in the daily cryptic crossword and Sudoku puzzles.Great price on Amazon too.
