After storing loose change for 27 years and realizing that I wouldn't have the patience to roll these coins by hand, I decided to look into coin sorters. I thought Coinstar at the local Walmart carried too high of a fee. I couldn't bring myself to do it. It's bad enough that I get less than 1% on my CDs and carry 15% on my credit cards. So I looked at what products were available. I watched some videos on Youtube and realized I may have more money in that loose change than I initially estimated. I decided to bite the bullet and buy this product. To my pleasant surprise, it paid for itself in the first half hour of use! The returns decreased as I hit a bunch of pennies. In order to catch up with Coinstar and break even with the fees, I'll have to sort about $700 in change. I think that will happen next year, and I'm fairly confident it will last long enough to do that and then some. So just on long term savings, I think it's a worthwhile product. It strikes me as reasonably built (sturdy enough). It jammed for a period of about a minute once then unstuck itself (in about 4 hours). It's designed to easily get under the hopper to unjam it or remove inappropriate coins (regular screwdriver). It's very fast when you pour in a good set of the coins. One note I should mention, my change had a lot of Canadian coins, so I went through more carefully than usual to remove them as well as safety pins, needles, buttons, and unrecognizable pieces of who knows what.

I had a large amount of change which I had accumulated over the years. I didn't want to go to a coin machine and have them charge me 8% to count my change. So, I bought a Royal Sovereign and went to work. The cost of the machine, coin wrappers, and coin storage boxes came to less than 4% of the total and I still had the machine which I will probably donate to a church. The best way to feed the counter is gradually by hand. If you overload the hopper, the machine will jam. Also, if the coins are somewhat worn, as some of mine were, the machine will jam. I finally removed the hopper hold down screw at the back of the machine so I could clear the jams more easily. Although coin wrappers will fit in the plastic coin holders, I found it easier to slip the coins into the wrapper from the tube after they had been counted. One other benefit: The machine is fun to watch!
