My seven-year-old son loves this wand, though you should know he listens to the Harry Potter series on tape from the library ALL THE TIME. We ordered it for his birthday after receiving an Amazon gift certificate. We read the reviews that said it was piece of cheap plastic c**p, so that's what we were expecting. It did not break right away, but the light stopped working after about a week's constant use. I took apart the body of the wand and taped the wire back in place with electrical tape, and it has worked fine for the past two months. Being the only toy, in the history of my two children, that wasn't ignored after a few days, I would say it is easily the best value for the money in toyland that we've experienced. (Though, to be honest, it is a hunk of cheap-looking plastic, and the noise will drive you crazy.)

Wand came in a nice giftable box. The quality was not as expected. The wand is light and not as sturdy as I anticipated. Also, there isn't on/off switch. I hear random swishes from the toy room as a result. Bought it for a Harry Potter costume and it worked great. Kids have played with it since and it has held up nicely

This was a great wand and really fun for the kids to play with. We used it as part of my son's Harry Potter costume for Halloween. (He won first prize wearing at a local costume contest). The wand worked great for about 2-3 months, during which the kids really put it to heavy use. Playing with it regularly during for play dates and evening dinner parties. Ultimately it broke apart. I'd still recommend it, since I'd say it held up pretty well for a while in steady use.

Read reviews so I was "warned" and didn't have high expectations. My 9 year old son loves it! It does light up and make magical sounds and is motion activated. The motion activated aspect works sporadically. If you smack the wand, that seems to work better. However, this wand won't stand up to much hitting so I don't suggest doing that very much.We purchased it to go with his Halloween costume, because I didn't want him to lose his spendy Universal Studios wand. As a costume accessory, this will work great and my son swears he will still play with it when it stops making noise and lighting up. Also, there is no on/off switch, which would have been a nice feature.

For the price, it's a 5 star product. You get a plastic wand that takes 2 batteries and lights up with a sound when you move it. Children 8 and under will love it. I will say that older children looking to play Harry Potter will probably want something different.I really need to mention fantastic customer service... our 6 yr old opened one for Christmas that didn't work (a piece was rattling around inside so we assume that's why). I contacted the seller with that info, got a reply that they were looking into it, and the NEXT DAY we got our replacement! Can't ask for better. 6 yr old is a happy Hogwarts student with her noisy light up wand and I'm a happy mama since it was handled so efficiently (thanks Christmas Elves).

Purchased this as a Christmas present for my 4 yr old son. Thank goodness I tested it out!Put in the batteries and could not get it to sound or light up. Tried messing with the batteries and get them tighter in the compartment to no avail. Out of frustration, I hit it on the side of my leg and it worked. Worked fine every time I banged it on something as a matter of fact. Since I'm not looking for a wand that will only work when my son hits something with it, I am returning it.I should say that I did not expect this to be some high quality awesome Harry Potter wand for only $7. I took a risk instead of buying the much more expensive wands for a 4 yr old. However, the quality of this wand is very poor. Not sure what the sounds are supposed to be, but they sound more like a short machine gun burst than a spell being cast. If you get one of these that works, I wouldn't guess that it will last long.

Perfect for my 4 and 6 year old Potter fans! Sturdy enough to handle being thrown, and cheap enough that I'm not too terribly worried about them destroying them... because they will! Definitely a halloween must have for the toddlers!

We got a pair of these for our kids, who love Harry Potter. Here are the highlights of this toy:1. It is far too large and unrepresentative of the movie wands. This might not be a big deal for your kids, but it's something you need to know. It's not something you can finger grip like a baton. Your whole hand is engaged when weilding this thing. The handle is about as thick as a large carrot.2. It has no off switch, and the movement sensor is almost comically sensitive. After putting batteries in, I took them out about 10 hours later. If a car goes by your house, it will set this thing off, and at all hours to boot. WOOSH WOMP WEEEEEE! "What was that? Are cheap electronic wizards breaking into our house?" "No dear, that's just the unbelievably sensitive and enormous Harry Potter wands that we got the kids for Christmas."3. The materials of construction are deficient. My four year old snapped the battery compartment in two the day after he opened it. Now, admittedly, he was absentmindedly prying at the edge with his fingernail while watching The Backyardigans, and it is true that he becomes emotionally invested in Pablo's activities, but I would think that a toy of this nature ought to be able to withstand this type of assault. I was obviously proven wrong. I'm not sure what grade of Chinese plastic they used in the manufacture of this toy, but it is probably the same cheap pasty gunk with which they fill generic pharmaceutical products.In this case, you're probably getting what you pay for, so I can't really complain. The only surprising thing to me was how large the wands are. I would say that they are useful as a cheap costume accessory, but if you're getting this so that your kids can run around the house and play dueling wizards (which the wife and I also do sometimes), I encourage you to look elsewhere for a more durable and less annoying solution.
