This handrail solved a multitude of problems. It was easy to install and arrived faster than expected. We are reluctant pool owners (it came with the house!) and we are enjoying it. The prior owners remove the handrail about 10 years ago when they installed a retractable cover. We have grand children that we want to enjoy the pool. But, without a handrail the steps look and could be dangerous. This was the perfect shape and would not interfere with the cover mechanism. We also wanted something for that would not burn their hands in the hot Carolina son. Several people warned us that stainless steel gets way too hot to touch.Fortunately the mounting brackets were already in place. But, they had to be cleaned out after 10 years of corrosion. (A round 2 inch wire brush on a drill did a marvelous job.)The handrail arrived earlier than expected. It fit perfectly and it took no more than 10 minutes to put it in place. Because it is a plastic I was concerned about tightening the bolts too much. They are in tight now and every once in a while I check and maybe increase the pressure 1/4 turn or so.Great product. Cool to the touch and it looks Super.

INSTALLATION OF SAFTRON RTD-448-W 4 BendDurable Swimming Pool Mounted Polymer HandrailInstalled handrail on my pool on 20 September 2022. Procedure can be used with other handrail shapes using surface mounting bases. Procedure below created using comments from others and my own experience installing the two bases. (NOTE: My pool has a hydraulic cover built into the pool deck; so, could not use hand rail type that dipped down towards pool surface.)Material: AMAZON• SAFTRON RTD-448 White 4 Bend Polymer Handrail ($299 + $21 tax)• SAFTRON 6 Inch Pool Handrail Surface Mounting Base ($62 + $4.34 tax (7%))HOME DEPOT• 6 – 5/16†x 1 ¾†Zinc Lag Shield anchors = $6.69 + tax• 2 – 5/16†x 3†Zinc Lag Bolts (Temporary Use) = $1.22 + tax• 6 – 5/16†x 2.5†Stainless Steel Lag Bolts = $13.80 + tax(NOTE: 2.5†bolts provided by SAFTRON appeared to be stainless steel not zinc or galvanized as other purchasers indicated; to be safe, I did purchase six stainless steel bolts and washers)• 6 – 3/8†Stainless Steel Flat Washers = $2.04 + tax• 2 x 6 x 24†scrap lumber (free)Tools:• 3/8†DROP-IN ANCHOR SETTING TOOL = $4.17 + tax (Home Depot)• 5/16†Diameter Bosh Concrete Hammer Drill Bit (Blue Granit)• ½†Diameter Concrete Hammer Drill Bit• ½†Socket and Socket Wrench• CHICAGO Hammer Drill• 3/16†Hex Wrench• Hammer• Pencil• Painters Tape• VacuumInstallation Steps:1. Make jig out of 2x6 wood scrap: Use pencil to mark location on wood of three bolt holes using one of the bases; drill three 5/16†holes in 2x6.2. Determine location of handrail: Insert anchor base on hand rail post closest to pool; set about 1 foot to right of top step when facing the pool; I positioned first bolt hole about 9†from edge of the pool (so, center of front post about 10-11†from edge of pool). Position anchor base with one bolt hole closest to the pool edge in line with the direction of the handrail and the other two holes on the opposite side of post; use pencil to color in bolt hole location on deck surface; set aside hand rail and base.3. Use 5/16†bit and drill to make shallow indention in concrete where bolt holes are to be drilled. (Note: Helps to locate position of holes when jig is on top of them.)4. Without jig, drill first hole closest to the pool using 5/16†drill bit 2†deep (pilot hole); drill hole again with ½†drill bit; use piece of painter’s tape to mark 2†depth on both drill bits. Use vacuum as needed to remove concrete dust. (NOTE: 5/16†anchors REQUIRE a ½†hole.)5. Insert first anchor into hole and tap lightly (using setting tool and hammer) until anchor is fully inserted. (NOTE: should be flush with or slightly below the deck surface.)6. Install jig using 3†lag bolt with washer in first anchor (don’t tighten completely); mark bits at 3 ½†depth with painter’s tape. Rotate jig until bolt hole markings on deck align with holes in jig; tighten 3†lag bolt until jig does not move.7. Drill second 5/16†hole into concrete followed with ½†drill bit.8. Loosen 3†bolt, rotate jig until 2nd hole seen and insert anchor.9. Rotate jig back and insert 2nd 3†bolt into second anchor and lightly thread into anchor. Center on jig 2nd bolt hole. Tighten first 3†bolt to lock jig in place again.10. Drill 3rd bolt hole; remove jig; insert 3rd anchor.11. Place base over the three anchors. (Note: I oriented the base so the two set screws were facing away from the steps for appearance’s sake.)12. Insert 2 ½†bolts with washers through the base into the anchors and firmly tighten.13. Place second base on back post and insert handrail into front base. Rotate until hand rail is in desired final position. Rotate second base until screw holes are in same position as the first base holes are; use pencil to mark three bolt hole locations on deck; set aside hand rail and second base.14. Repeat steps 3-12 to install second surface mounting base.15. Insert hand rail so bottom of each post is touching the deck.16. Lightly tighten the two set screws on each base. DO NOT over tighten to avoid stripping thread in plastic base.17. To improve appearance, can install white plastic bolt head covers on the six bolts. From Pro-Dec.com at $0.40 each plus $4.00 shipping.(Note: See photos of the finished installation and material/tools used.)P.S. Wife and 5-year old twin grandsons approved!

Works well and looks great. I would have given five stars but for two things: 1) the anchors provided are cheap plastic and the bolts are not stainless steel and 2) bolt caps are not included. Went to the local Home Depot and got real concrete anchors (red head) and stainless steel bolts. You have to use stainless steel around a pool unless you want rust stains on your deck. Bought these white bolt caps on line. They give it a finished look for about 25 cents apiece. Otherwise a great addition. The wife and I are both getting older and this makes getting in and out of the pool much easier (grandkids love it too).

This rail is better than stainless steel because it won’t rust. Everything rusts in Fla. this rail is beautiful and easy to install yourself.

We had some issues last year with our pool and the stainless steel handrail shocking some people exiting the pool. It seemed to be a lesser issue this year for whatever reason, however the Saftron handrail is coated aluminum and we expect it will eliminate the very light shock. So far it has performed well.

The handrail arrived as promised in a timely manner. The installation went without a hitch.I did make a template for the holes that needed to be drilled in the concrete pool decking by simply tracing ends of the the two pipes onto a board and drilling 2" holes into the board that would act a pilots holes for the 2" core drill bit that would follow. We drilled the necessary 2" holes through the 4" thick concrete pool decking. The holes did need to be back filled with some crushed stone to get the bottoms of the 2" holes level with one another. This eliminated piston like motion of the handrail when the hole depth was uneven. We also used thin shim pieces to secure the end pipes of the hand rail in the concrete and eliminate any side to side motion. The escutcheon plates (include in package) give the installation a very nice finished appearance. There is a little flex of the handrail when pulling sideways on the end of the rail. However, It is rock solid when pulled upon from the front or applying vertical pressure.

Very easy to scratch, no indication how deep you have to screw the screw (in the base )to hold it tight - eventually ends with screwing into the plastic of the rail or damaging the thread in the base that is already in concrete. Producer doesn't bother to put all the necessary info because knows that you are ... and buy this thing anyway if you can't have metal one.
