I've lived without railing for about 10 years, so it was time. One thing that was nice to be without railing was that it was easier to move things up and down the stairs. I decided to attempt building railings myself.I knew whatever I built would be janky, so I thought, if it can't be purdy, at least it can be sturdy. I originally ordered a set of shorter screws for the Newell posts, and I just didn't trust them, so bought these. With only one large bolt per post, things are a lot easier to disassemble. I left the side holes open for now, since I want to keep things modular, and wood plugs won't work for me.The hardest part was finding the joists to drill into. These are pretty forgiving as far as getting the posts plumb. The only area I messed up in was that I drilled on an uneven outside patio for two of my posts, so my vertical holes were way off, still, I was able to salvage things with by enlarging my terrible drill-holes. I would definitely buy these again. I also bought some Zip Bolts for the rails themselves and they worked out too.

This is THE way to install a newell post that is rock solid and will stay that way. I've been a professional installer and have done very many posts. Forget toenail nails in post, this is the method to use.

We use this system on as many installations of Newel Posts as possible. Sturdy, easy to install and give a good finished product

Good design overall. Worked for what I needed but ended up having to buy two additional systems after two broke while tightening down. Followed directions to a T, everything lined up and went together smoothly but had two snap right at end of threads. At that point couldn’t go to another system since newel posts were already cut and drilled for this one. So once new bolts came in I bored out the pilot hole slightly bigger than instructions stated. Was able to get them to tighten fine after that without issue
