I purchased this docking station to clone and replace an old hard drive for a solid state drive. This did exactly what I needed. It was simple to use and I did not need to connect to a computer. I just removed the old hard drive from my laptop, set the laptop aside and cloned the drive to the new SSD, then installed the new SSD to the laptop. It took a while to clone but I found this device easy and convenient to use.

I needed a new hard drive dock to accommodate a brand new 12TB 2.5" hard drive (spinning platter) that I use for backing up photo and video files. I tried a different brand dock before purchasing this dock, and unfortunately the other one had super low transfer speeds (just a miniscule fraction of the advertised transfer speed). So I decided to try the Sabrent USB-C dock, and I'm glad I did! This drive (when connected via USB-C into my Mac Studio M2 Max) averages around 2 Gbps transfer speeds. I realize this is slower than the advertised 10 Gbps, but I'm totally fine with that speed as I only use it for backing up content during off hours (and I also understand that actual speeds will always be slower than advertised max speeds). I can set my system to backup before leaving for the evening, and then when I get back in the morning, everything is done. The drive dock came nicely packaged and I was up and running in a matter of minutes. I like that this dock came with both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables (for greatest I/O flexibility depending on what you have available). Great job, Sabrent... I'm thrilled my backup solution is back online!!

Tested and verified: 20TB drives are supported by the of this Sabrent SATA hard drive docking station. I have been using it for two weeks with two SATA hard drives, using the full capacity of the hard drive all the way to the top, and this docking station works flawlessly without a hiccup. I am running it on a Windows 11 laptop. I fully formatted the two 20TB drives using a full (very slow and complete) Windows NTFS format, not a quick format, just to make sure that the docking station can access the full capacity of the drive, and it formats successfully. Then, I completely filled the drive with data, all the way to the end, and read all the data back again, and it all verifies and works perfectly.I am posting this info in this review because the specs for this say that it supports up to 16TB, but doesn't mention 20TB. That's just because the manufacturer has only tested it on drives up to 16TB (I'm pretty sure that 20TB drives were not yet available when the manufacturer wrote up the specs). Conceptually, since this docking station has enough hardware addressing lines for 16TB drives, it will also work with 20TB drives (and higher capacities), but now I've actually verified this for myself.I really like this little SATA docking station. It's compact, so I can pack it up with me when I travel. It's quite inexpensive, which is a nice bonus. It doesn't need a user manual - like other SATA docking stations, you just plug it into a USB-C port on your computer, and it just works. It gives you two (potentially very large) hard drives connected to your laptop or desktop computer, to use for backups, or to store large external data files. Super easy and reliable. The one feature I wish this docking station had was 10Gbps data transfer speed, per the USB 3.x Gen 2 standard. Alas, this docking station only supports the slower and slightly older 5Gbps speed, which is USB 3.0 Gen 1. Truthfully, this is not a big deal, because the SATA III standard for hard drives only supports 6Gbps anyway, so the 10Gbps is overkill, and the 5Gbps speed of this docking station is almost as fast as the 6Gbps maximum speed of SATA III. But still, faster is better. There is another dual-bay SATA docking station here on Amazon that supports 10Gbps - it is the . However, I discovered that for some reason that StarTech dual-bay docking station is not compatible with the USB-C shipset in my Clevo laptop. So, I got this Sabrent dual-bay docking station instead, and it works great.

Upgraded from an 80GB drive to a 1TB drive and needed to transfer the existing data. Totally seamless. As the primary drive, boot up and file system were totally functioning.

*** Updated September 29, 2023 ***For about the last week, the A drive has been disconnecting overnight. It happens every night. It does not seem to be related to any activity. It does happen after my overnight mirror utility runs, but it’s not right after it runs. I’ll be looking for another brand at the next Prime Day sale.*** Original Review ***My setup is a Mac with user directories stored on an external HD. I use a dual cradle, with Disk A holding the user directories and Disk B being a backup that is mirrored every night using SuperDuper.I've had this setup for over 10 years. I have always used Inateck cradles, but I finally upgraded to a Mac with Thunderbolt, so I wanted to switch to a cradle with USB C. Inateck's is unavailable, so I gave Sabrent a try. It set up fine, but Disk A would disconnect at least once every day. Upon restarting everything worked fine, but I knew eventually it would corrupt the HD, or it would disconnect while I was in the middle of something important.Reading the other reviews about cable problems, I swapped out the included cable with another I had on hand. So far so good - no disconnects, and even though I can't remember where the cable came from, I have noticed no drop in speed (I think it was most likely a charging cable that came with an Anker battery pack). I found it odd that it would be a cable problem when only one HD was disconnecting, but after a week with no problems (and daily disconnects before that), it's looking like it was the cable. It appears this is a pretty common problem. If Sabrent can't ship a decent cable, I would prefer they ship no cable at all. The cradle isn't very expensive, so I don't mind purchasing my own cable. I'd rather be forced to do that than risk a data loss from the included cable.

Device seems solid and works well, but the cable that came with it did not function. Customer service offered to replace it if I packed up the whole thing and shipped it back to Amazon for replacement. Just For a cable? Sabrent was not equipped to send a cable only. I just kept it and used one of my own cables. Otherwise a good product.

This is a reliable product and works well at reasonably fast transfer rates. Be careful where you buy since your purchase may 'not' include the power supply for your country. Sellers only sell product as is ...
