Works as expected out of the box on Windows 11.However, if you're on Linux or BSD you'll need to make sure that you're running a somewhat recent version of the r8152 driver. This device uses an r8157 chipset which is supported properly only in newer versions of the driver. I tried to find release notes for the driver to identify when support was actually added but those don't seem to exist anywhere.Even the upcoming Ubuntu release beta - 25.04 Plucky Puffin - only includes version 1.12.13 of the r8152 kernel module. This is fine for other adapters in the family, including 2.5G adapters, but won't recognize or properly initialize the R8157 chip.If the newer driver versions aren't available, a fallback driver will be used that results in very flaky behavior. Connections are negotiated at 705 mb/s, for instance, and actual throughput is inconsistent, fluctiating dramatically over time.Thankfully this can be fixed by finding an updated package for the r8152 kernel module th at works with your distro and installing it. For ubuntu I used the "awesometic/realtek-r8152-dkms" package on github via the PPM method they recommend in the readme. With the latest driver version installed - 2.19.2 when I'm writing this review - the device set itself up properly, negotiated a 5G-BASE-T conneciton, and worked as expected.

Works well, just need to install drivers, change power settings, and adjust the buffers. Its one of the better USB Realtek 2.5Gbe adapters. If you want the best, get the 5Gbe version.

I purchased this to have a hard line for my Dell laptop that no longer has a built in ethernet port. I do not have high speed internet as AT&T does not offer anything in my area over 50 MB down. Yes pretty bad these days. So I cannot test the speed to 2.5 Gb. I plugged in the adaptor and it worked out of the box. I have not tried it on my MacBook Pro from work to see if it works. I have had good luck with my Sabrent products so far.... I have many. In general it is a brand I trust.

I have given this Sargent 5G Ethernet adapter every chance to work using the USB C 3.2 port on my Lenovo P16 Gen2 laptop but it just isn’t happening. It’s pretty rock solid I’m one of my Thunderbolt 4 ports but I need both Thunderbolt ports for monitors. I contacted Sabrent tech support (a short hold time for live support I was pretty impressed), however the tech was just a screen reader, didn’t help much at all, but was polite. He did inform me that there is no firmware update needed or available. The adapter is solidly built, short cable seemed very well put together. But I’ll be sending it back. I’ll go ahead and get the Lenovo 2.5G adapter vs getting a 2.5G Sabrent. I was able to verify compatibility on the Lenovo site. 2.5G will be sufficient for my needs. I always try to get my network stuff with a little headroom vs maxxed out. Maybe Sabrent will weigh in with some words of wisdom. I did give it 3 stars even though I’m returning it. USB C 3.2 should power this little adapter with ease.

I plugged it into my Macbook pro and directly connected my 2.5Gbps symmetrical service to the adapter. Speed tests showed 2.45Gbps down and 2.3Gbps up which is close to the rated speed of my internet. I have not used this long term, but initial impressions are impressive.I needed do some testing on my network at various points in the chain to find bottlenecks, but it turns out none of my laptops have ethernet ports anymore (and it's not likely they would be 2.5Gbps capable anyway), so I ordered this to use with my laptop to check speeds before and after routers and switches in my home network.I went with Sabrent when looking for an adapter because I have used their NVMe SSDs in the past and was impressed with their quality and price.Things I have not tested:* Long term reliability* Connection quality during long term useBut for price and performance for my uses I am very pleased.

No issues, hitting same speeds as my built in 2.5 Gbps Ethernet on my motherboard, got this for my laptop and no issues at at. Plug N play. Great item.

I purchased this USB-C to 2.5 Gbps Ethernet adapter for my 2017 iMac.For some reason, the adapter did not initially appear as a network interface under System Settings (even though the adapter is supposed to be plug-and-play). I then tried to download the appropriate driver from the Realtek site (which Sabrent directs you to) but they did not have any drivers for modern versions of macOS.It turns out I just needed to reboot the iMac. The adapter was automatically recognized after rebooting the computer and it appeared as a network interface. Since then it has been working perfectly (as advertised). It would have been helpful to know that rebooting may be required, but nevertheless my overall experience with this adapter has been great. One thing to keep in mind is that the equipment (e.g. router or switch) you connect the adapter to must also support 2.5 Gbps connections in order to benefit from the extra data transfer speeds. Even if you pay for internet service that is faster than 1 Gbps, your speeds could still be limited to 1 Gbps when using this adapter if you have other networking equipment acting as a bottleneck.
