Back before I knew these existed, I cut the stock wiring harness plugs and hard wired the new unit with wire connectors. I'm older and wiser now and will never do that again. These are a must have for a cleaner and easier installation. The wire colors are standardized so they match up to the wire colors of the head unit. Easy peasy. I would recommend that you solder the wires together and use close ended wire connectors to insulate.

Well, I can say this harness it really well built, giving me the impression it will last a long time. BUT — and this a huge “but†— if it’s a replacement for the end of the original harness that comes with the car (in my case, a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT), why, oh why, are the wires not the same colors as the original wire harness. I had to constantly research a couple websites to see which wires went together, due to the color differences, and, also, because the original labeling of wires are different names and descriptions from the new harness names and descriptions of the new wires. Took me longer to install that one end harness than it did to replace the entire remainder of the new stereo. Anyway, like I mentioned, I don’t imagine I’ll be needing to change it out for a long, long time (if ever), so I can’t really complain.

Wasn’t sure if it’s gonna work for my 2008 Ford Ranger. But it worked, for now at least. Got it set up no problem. Hopefully it will last. Recommend it so far
