I picked up this Scotts Drought Tolerant Grass Seed Mix hoping to fix some bare patches and improve my lawn's overall resilience. Living in an area with inconsistent rainfall, I needed something that could handle heat and dry spells without constant watering. The Good:✅ Great Coverage: The 4 lb. bag went a long way. I used it to overseed some thinning areas and cover a few bare patches, and I still had some left over.✅ Fast Germination: I started seeing sprouts in about 7-10 days, which was faster than I expected for a drought-resistant mix.✅ Strong Growth: The combination of Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue is excellent—once established, the grass came in thick and green, blending well with my existing lawn. The fescue adds durability, while the bluegrass brings a lush look.✅ Handles Heat Well: We had a dry spell after planting, and this mix held up way better than my older grass. Definitely a great choice if you don’t want to water constantly. The Not-So-Good:âš ï¸ Needs Patience: While it germinated fairly quickly, it took a few weeks before it really started to fill in. You have to be diligent with watering at first.âš ï¸ Patchy at First: Some areas grew faster than others, but once I reseeded a couple of spots, it evened out over time.Final Verdict:Overall, I’m really happy with this grass seed mix. If you’re looking for something that’s drought-tolerant but still gives you a lush, green lawn, this is a solid option. Just make sure to water consistently during germination, and you’ll get great results. Would definitely buy again!âââââ (5/5) – Just needs a little patience!

The label indicates 95% tall fescues (3 varieties) with the 5% balance being Kentucky bluegrasses. It says that the bluegrasses have rhizomes to help spread and fill in bare spots, while presumably the fescues do not spread by roots. Being almost entirely tall fescues' seed I did a little research which suggests while they're not the finest textured of grasses they are some of the hardiest. For the typical lawn that seems good news. My lawn will certainly need to handle dry periods, traffic, dogs, hot sun, partial shade, and I suppose disease resistance could be important too.Oregon State says, "Because it was coarse textured and somewhat rank growing, tall fescue was not widely used for turfgrass until the 1950’s when it’s heat and drought tolerance and resistance to diseases that affected common fine turf grasses became recognized. It was particularly well suited for use in the mid-Atlantic region and throughout much of the transition zone in America. Its general adaptability to a wide range of soil types, soil fertility, soil pH levels, and tolerance to moderate cold and heat stresses has made tall fescue an increasingly attractive turf grass."I won't be monitoring soil pH or soil fertility, so I see the high tall fescues content as good news. The bag weighs 4 lbs 1.6 oz, so all seems proper. Temperatures are bitter cold out now with snow so I cannot really test this product until I overseed in spring and then gauge growth over a whole growing season, but I'm pleased that the product I received seems all proper with very good label information/instructions, and a "sell by" date that is more than two years in the future. Finally, the list or price of 4 lbs for $29.99 seems quite reasonable. The manufacturer offers refund or replacement if not satisfied for any reason, so everything is to like about this product so far. If it doesn't perform after a growing season I can come back and edit the review.

We have a little farm with lots of square feet, so I am not looking to make something that you could call a lawn, but bold spots still annoy me and I want to get rid of them. This is what this seed is for, I go around and sprinkle some seeds on those thin spots and hope for the best. What helps is some grass clippings covering those spots to give the seeds a chance. And if I can do this just before it rains = perfect!

No issues with shipping or packing, it's well sealed. Other than that it is grass seed, mostly Fescue with a small percentage of bluegrass.Remains to be seen how it grows but we had a dry summer last year so there's giant dead patched that need to be reseeded and this is supposed to be drought tolerant, fingers crossed, will update if I encounter major issues or poor germination.

Our front lawn is overrun with weeds and bare spots from neglect. Finding the right mix of grass for this region is necessary for grass that grows in the warm and hotter months. The grass we used before could not take Texas droughts. This bag of seeds should be plenty to over-seed the front lawn considering the lawn is less than 2000 sq ft. The key is to till up the soil around 2-3 inches and burying these seeds. Sprinkling these seeds on the ground and watering them in does not work. They sprout fairly quickly with regular watering where you planted them. Hopefully, these grass seeds will last several seasons and there will be less weeds.

Full disclosure: I'm reviewing this before the seeds have been grown.I live in Colorado which has a lot of dry areas so I'm going to be overseeding my yard with this product. My hope is that the fescue will grow. I know it's hard to get it started but once it's established, it is very drought tolerant. I hate to water lawns and I think it's terrible that people use Kentucky Bluegrass here because water is in short supply. Fescue uses far less water and although it's not very soft, it looks good and doens't grow very fast.So I have high hopes for this bag of seed.I think it will be great because Scotts is a trusted brand. I will report back this summer and give a more detailed review.
