About this item

  • Shake-to-start siphon vacuum for freestanding hot tubs & above-ground pools
  • Vacs up grit, sand, debris from bottom
  • May also be used for draining water
  • 8 ft. Hi-flow discharge hose
  • IMPORTANT: For any siphon to work, the water surface must be higher than the discharge point (end of the hose), so that gravity makes the water flow down-hill. Otherwise, a siphon will not start. Not for inground spas & pools.

Spa Depot's self-starting Shake-a-Vac sucks up debris, sand, grass, bugs, or grit from the bottom of your portable hot tub or above-ground pool. To start vac, simply dip the wand in the water, then vigorously shake up and down until siphon starts! Long reach 36" wand. Cleans without awkward hoses to connect, bags to empty, or expensive batteries to replace! IMPORTANT: For any siphon to work, the water surface must be higher than the discharge point (end of the hose), so that gravity makes the water flow down-hill. Water must be above ground level. NOT FOR IN-GROUND SPAS & POOLS.

STAY AWAY from this product! It has a worse suction than aquarium vacuums! I tried for an hour, my pool is above ground, I followed instructions to the line! It works, water does get sucked out of the pool, but it doesn't have the strength to take out grains of sand or even a minuscule piece of grass, it is useless! The hose is made of cheap plastic and doesn't stay flat on the floor, it is so short you can't do anything with it. The pole is non-existent, my arm is LONGER! The photo is very misleading!!!!! Because the hose retain its shape, mine remained in a circle (because it was shipped like it) and this shape makes it impossible for the water to flow faster. This product should be banned from being sold on amazon, but I guess people keep buying and don't want to deal with the trouble of shipping it back, so they still get profit from selling something that does NOT work.

We have the hardest water! The calcium build-up gets way out of control if we go for more than a week or two without adjusting the water. We let it go too long, and had to scrub the tub down with CLR to get the calcium and whatever other minerals off the walls/seats. Once we were done cleaning, we also have a problem where the bottom of the hot tub never drains completely - so we fill/drain/fill/drain/fill/drain trying to get the old water out. This last time we cleaned, there was a good 1/2 cup of calcium deposits that were still sitting on the bottom of the hot tub. I purchased this with the hopes that EITHER I could vacuum the sediment out of the bottom OR the next time we cleaned it, i could use it to drain the last couple of gallons that just never empty from the bottom. I went to vacuum it today and it worked so well - I'm really pleasantly surprised! Look at the amount of calcium/minerals it was able to get from the bottom of our hot tub! (Our water tests perfect at the moment - I'm hoping we can avoid this problem from happening again!)

Was weird to figure out how to keep it going, but I just use my mouth the old fashioned way, if if water gets in my mouth, I spit it out. My pool is pretty clean, and I’m not a big baby, so it’s fine that way. Works well for our small 18x12 pool, but does clog up with larger debris like leaves and pine needles. Was pretty hard for me to decide on what cheap vacuum to get, so many mixed reviews on most of them, but this one is a winner for me. Very simple device, easy to use, does what I need. I will be ordering a real pool vacuum for next summer though, one that will get all the debris on its own, without me standing there for an hour lol. Hope this helps someone struggling to find a quick cheap solution for the grit at the bottom. Mine was largely caused by broadcasting straight into the pool, rather than the filter.

It was quicker for me to take buckets of water and dump them out of my hot tub then to use this

1st shake it came apart. Fished the bottom half out, shook it half as hard and it started a good amount of suction. Vacuumed all the debris in minutes. 30 years with a spa and the last few inches of water and debris have always made me nuts. Ingenious product. I see reviews posted about the cost, 35 bucks or whatever is nothing compared to the convenience/ease of getting those elusive little grains of sand and pebbles.

I absolutely love this! I vacuumed and backwashed my pool probably 7-8 in 2 weeks trying to get this white/gray stuff that would be floating around in my pool. I'm dreading my water bill LOL! It would always settle to the bottom of the pool after the pump was off and then stir back up when i turned it back on or when the vacuum was used. It would go right through the vacuum net. This vacuum sucks it right out of my pool without stirring it up! Whatever it was is completely out of my pool now!! I love it!!!

Item is way to expensive to end up all bent and warped after only a few days in a pool storage with the item not in direct sunlight. Once it warps it stops working.
