This adapter does the trick, but it may need modifications based on what you are doing. I have read other reviews where the users have had issues - if you are a DIYer then a few mods will make it work. I have a standard old Moen valve and wanted a nicer updated Moentrol trim. I happen to select a square echelon which required mods to get it straight on the wall. This Adapter does the adaptation well for round echelon (the big trim plate) - did this in a downstairs bath. My master bath had a square echelon which required me to rotate the adapter to get things to really line up on the wall. I found that I had to drill out one of the mounting holes on the adapter (its soft brass so easy to do) to achieve the rotation I needed. I'll also warn you that when I did this, one of the four mounting holes or flanges on the value was then in the way for the screw from the echelon thru the backside of the adapter. I simply drilled that un-needed flange/hole on the value away too. Everything works great. Took a little work and understanding what needed to be done - but its now there for another 10+ years maybe more..I'll also note that I saw other posts thinking the new adapter mounting holes were the wrong distances apart. I did not find this issue when I lined them up in my hands. However if you followed the above description, when I tried to mounting things prior to the mods - the interfaces to the value gave me the impression the screws had to be at an angle (wrong distance) to be screwed in. It sure felt like the adapter wasn't going to work. But reviewing what was really happening was the screws were interfering with other things "in the wall", e.g. the value. Given the mods above everything is snug/secure and good to go.

You buy a Moen adapter & install the new expensive trim plate & it goes on crooked..... Moen is horrible & always a problem..... Main trim plate came with a dent, The finish screws were chrome & my finish is brushed nickel. The allen wrench in box was the wrong size & didn't fit my screws. Then both cheap screws stripped...... And, with the Moen adapter the trim plate goes on crooked in my high end marble shower...... Horrible!. Moen is the worst company!!! I'm not sure if the seller is the problem as most likely it's Moen.

Allowed me to retain the standard Moen valve (I did replace the cartridge) during a recent bathroom remodel. This gave me several options to use more modern Moen trim kits.Note that the threads on the long plate screws should be lightly lubricated and ran in and out of the brass plate before installing. The brass threads in the plate are not well cut and will snap the soft brass screws if they are not cleaned out in advance. Running a tap through these threads would accomplish the same.

I bought this product because I needed it for installation of the new Moentrol trim that I bought to replace my existing Moentrol trim. The old escutcheons had screw holes in the 5 and 7 o'clock positions, and the new ones had holes in the 1 and 7 o'clock positions. The valve plates had four screw holes in the 1, 5, 7, and 11 positions, but closer in than the holes in the escutcheons. After attaching this adapter to the valve plate via two of its inner screw holes, I proceeded to attach the escutcheon to the adapter via its outer screw holes, but soon heard an unpleasant screeching, as the valve plate extended just far enough to interfere with the clearance of the screws. I plan to use my Dremel to grind that part of the plate down ever so slightly to make it work.

Needed to update our old shower fixtures and have the old standard Moen stuff which isn't available anymore. After hours of research and piecing together everything we needed, we managed to upgrade from the old ugly chrome/brass handle of the 80s to an oil rubbed bronze. We needed this converter and it did the trick. We didn't have to do any modifying to it like some others have commented. Worked for us.

This device isn't right. I cannot recommend buying it. Like other reviews have suggested the holes are in the right place. I got one anyway because there isn't a readily available alternative and I thought I can drill a hole bigger if needed. After trying to align it I decided otherwise. I would be better off buying a piece of brass or aluminum and making my own part.Every hole is in the wrong place. I don't even know how this design got produced. Was it a copy of a copy of a copy? Was it designed by some guy with a copy of a copy knockoff valve and their own custom handle? Is this some terrible metric to imperial unit conversion gone wrong? Was it cast from a Playdough mold... in a backyard... while drunk... on a trampoline? It's so poor and amateur that I believe the manufacturer has to go out of their way to make it this way.

You will need to remove some of the brass "ears" on the original valve body in order for the trim screws to clear. Install the plate and hand screw the trim screws in without the trim ring to see how much is needed for clearance. I used a multi tool to clip what I needed too (took 10 min total once I knew). Worked well.

Threads don’t fit screws. Can’t screw in.
