Craft Foam is a blank canvas for any arts & crafts project
All water-based paints, glues, and coatings may be used. Polystyrene may be painted and coated for either a finishing or protecting effect. May be coated with paints, glitters, paper mache, plaster of Paris and more. Caution - Petroleum-based paints and glues will melt polystyrene.
With a bit of paint and some creative imagination, the sky is the limit.
Multiple pieces can be adhered together to create large scenes
Whether your project is a large scene or a smaller school project, pieces can be shaped and glued together with hot glue, Elmer's glue, Mod Podge, or any non-solvent-based glue to create more dimension and texture. As a general rule, if your glue or coating has strong fumes, it is a solvent base and will likely melt your foam and not provide optimal results.
Rigid yet, lightweight.
Polystyrene is a firm, rigid foam that can support great amounts of weight, yet remains light and easy to transport and work with.
Gaming and Diorama uses.
With some simple tools, such as soldering irons, hot knives, and wood-burning tools, textures can be melted into your polystyrene to create realistic textures. Many customers use our foam for creating small-scale sets for action figures or game play as well as model railroading and architectural models.

A common question we receive is "how much weight will polystyrene support?"
Polystyrene provides excellent strength and is commonly used underneath highways and in heavy construction. It will show visible dents, but can support the weight of a human without crushing or breaking. For added durability, there are numerous foam coatings ranging from concrete, Dryvit, plaster of paris, specialty foam coatings, latex paint, etc. that will create a hardened shell on your foam which can withstand many years of repeated use.
The foam in this listing is 1lb per cubic foot density.

I was able to use a low heat glue gun that made gluing pieces together easy. Paint didn’t absorb and stayed vibrant. It didn’t easily break apart. Overall, I would buy this product again for future school projects.

I build 1/35 scale military vehicles and this material makes a good foundation on which to create a diorama. It is strong, rigid and easy to cut, sand and glue. It is also useful whenever I have to airbrush smaller parts, i.e.: I stick the parts to one end of a toothpick and then place the other end into the foam so that the part does not get blown away during the airbrushing. BTW this same sized foam is also available in a 3-pack by the same manufacturer which is also sold at Amazon for those who don't foresee using six pieces in the future. Be aware though that buying the 6-pack is much cheaper per piece.
