I'm retired Navy and we used this brand of multimeter onboard the submarines I was assigned. It had a military designation and was slightly larger than the Simpson 260-8P. The 260-8P is a substantial multimeter. The cost is also substantial, but it will last a lifetime, It will be passed on to my children and grandchildren. I clearly waited too long to purchase one. I have little interest in owning another digital meter (I have owned three, and have been disappointed each time. GOODWILL Industries will be getting them soon). The test leads are also substantial in length and heft. This is a QUALITY meter that is highly accurate and is totally sourced and made in the USA (Wisconsin). The meter was well packaged and arrived in 2 days (Prime). I highly recommend the 260-8P to anyone and everyone (beginner or expert) because it will last you a lifetime (easily less than USD$1.00 per month).

Very fast shipping . It arrived in 2days. It is expensive but, the simpson 260-8P is the most amazing meter on the planet. I have been in the maintenance field for over 30 years. I always wanted a Simpson, just couldn't afford it, till now. I went ahead and ordered the roll -top case for it. A meter this nice, you gotta keep it protected. It was shipped very nice. Packed in a cardboard box. Then in the Simpson box. Then in a styrofoam case inside the Simpson box, and owners manual. It look and works like a fine Swiss watch. I couldn't be happier. Thank you Simpson for making such a fine, "Work Of Art."

I have owned several of these meters from a series 5 to a series 7P and now a series 8P. There are a few differences in the controls on the face of the meters, but they are virtually the same as they have been for years. They are extremely accurate and rugged. They are very tough and able to take a few bumps and bruises without sacrificing usability. Of course the meter movements are sensitive and the units must be maintained properly and not subjected to unusual abuse. With that said, the normal use and wear and tear will not impact the 260's accuracy or longevity. Digital VOMs are very useful, but analog meters also have their place to be able to watch the increase or decrease in value of the measurement as changes are made to the circuit being measured. This is not easily noticed with a digital meter, and in my opinion, the Simpson is the ultimate analog VOM. This is not a VTVM and does not pretend to be. But as an analog volt/ohm/current meter, it is the ultimate.

I’ve owned two other Simpson test and loved them both. This meter is what I would consider a deluxe version of their 260’s. I wanted it badly. My wife ordered it for Father’s Day. When it opened the box it was obvious old side was defaced. For that kind of money I found that unacceptable and returned it.

A true classic! The Simpson 260 is famous for its accuracy and reliability. Although I have a quality digital multimeter, I have always wanted one of these, as it's what I learned with many years ago in avionics school. Just as accurate, easy to use, and downright awesome as I remember! Although it's a pricey piece of gear, its quality is well worth it.

Absolutely the best analog multimeter that's made. 100% top-notch craftsmanship. The addition of the continuity alarm (from previous versions) is a great addition. The internal protection is also evolved. Overall, absolutely no regrets. I'd buy again in a heartbeat.

There are times in electrical troubleshooting where an analog meter is needed to see very slight voltage changes...and a digital meter won’t catch them. Perfect for HVAC use

Great analog meter. Yes it's probably overkill for most hobbyist and I paid a little more than I really wanted to but it is top notch equipment and after working with years ago I know they are great meters. There are some things I really like the old analog meters for and this one is one of the best. I used the older version of this meter for years as a 33S in the US Army and that is why I got it for my electronics/HAM radio hobby now. It's a great and well made VOM.
