I'm writing this based on my wife's feedback. She has made much of her own clothing, clothing and whatnot for kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and friends and she is a true pro. I have bought her many of the fancy, expensive machines with all the bells and whistles and heard more than my share of her frustrations with the expensive, plastic crap on the market. As an engineer this one caught my eye due to it's heay metal construction and minimalist but adequate features. She has used it exclusively over the past few months (through her busiest time-Christmas- and she is happy as a lark and that, as any husband knows, is happiness for him. Highly recommend for a happy home.

just received the sewing machine. Excellent quality for the price. It was missing a spool stopper and I had to order one from Amazon. My last machine was a Viking machine and lasted me 15 years of heavy duty sewing. I expect this one will last me a good while. If I get 5 years out of it I will be happy. Its easy to operate. I do not need a lot of frills and this one is perfect for sewing quilts.

It's heavy enough it doesn't slide around. Does the basics which is all I wanted. Even has a needle threader. Good starter machine for mending, simple sewing, new sewers. Can't beat for the price.

I've had the same sewing machine since 1981. It had started to sew poorly and I stopped sewing because of it. Too much trouble. Then I got motivated, had it serviced for $85 and started a project...which that machine destroyed. The service was not successful after all. I was going to take it back to the service guy, but looked at Singer machines on Amazon. Couldn't believe you can buy a new machine for just over 100 bucks. So I decided to donate my poor old Kenmore and buy a new Singer Heavy Duty 4432 Machine for a reasonable $143. I am so glad I bought this machine. This thing runs like a dream. It's quiet, it sews smoothly, cleanly, easily. I tried it on several fabrics so far: some fine stretchy nylon, cotton, rayon, fleece and jeans. It's a pleasure to sew with. I do simple sewing and altering, but this thing made those tasks a cinch. The dials are easy to use and understand without having to read the whole manual. I didn't want a complicated machine and this one fits the bill.I was most impressed by the bobbin in the top of the sewing plate, with the clear lid. Maybe this has been around for years, but my old machine by another maker had the bobbin underneath where it was awkward to put the bobbin in. The Singer bobbin drops in easily and with the clear door and clear bobbin you can see when your bobbin thread is about to run out! Ingenious. The other crazy thing is the mechanism that threads the needle for you. I can't see to thread needles anymore, but this contraption looked ridiculous. However, I tried it and voilà , it works!! How clever. This machine is also very lightweight and it fits in the case I had for my old machine. I'm enjoying sewing again!

Where do I start?! I wanted to love this machine, as i have an old singer from the 70s that i love, it was passed down to me from my grandmother, and could straight stitch through anything! Ive also had 2 Brother machines, both consumer models, both able to run bartacks through 3/4 webbing like a hot knife through butter. This Singer HD however, is the worst machine i have ever owned. It looks good and boasts a number of great stitch options, but thats where the positives end. The build quality is abysmal. When i received it, it was not ready to sew. Almost everything on the machine was loose or falling off. After going through the machine, ensuring everything was tight, attached, and ready to rock, i started sewing a few test stitches, only to have the bobbin feed dislocate itself inside the machine. After fixing this, i began again, and within 3 minutes, had bent the needle at low speed, through a cotton pillow case, on a standard zig-zag stitch. Figuring perhaps it was a fluke, i began again with a new needle. Within 10 seconds, the second needle impacted the presser foot plate and broke. Inspecting the machine, i tried to determine why it was having alignment issues right out of the box. Everything seems perfectly aligned at low speed when rotating by hand. Starting again, with a new needle, at slow speed, on a straight stitch, 5 stitches in, it broke another needle. So it becomes obvious that the machines alignment from the factory is off, or there is a major fault with the presser foot feed. Starting once more, on low speed, with a zig zag stitch, the machine breaks the needle, binds the bobbin, and dislocates the bobbin feed.I have sewn over 4000m of fabric with my old Brother, and not once had a feed issue or broken a needle. I am beyond fed up with the singer "heavy duty" and would label it a paperweight. To further expound on issues with the singer, it has the worst speed control i have experienced on a sewing machine. Sometimes it is smooth linear power/speed increase throughout the pedal travel, and sometimes, you get to 3/4 pedal travel before the machine even starts to sew. Other times, a mere 1/16 of pedal travel will ramp up stitch speed to 1000. I wish i had purchased anything else. The Singer "heavy duty" is anything but heavy duty. If i could return it i would. It is an absolute garbage machine, and should be considered light duty at best. Look elsewhere for a good heavy duty sewing machine and save yourself hours of turse words thrown at this machine.

I am unsure if it was previously used or not. From the looks of the box it was opened but so hard to say anymore. I tried the machine I should have stopped when the bobbin winder did not work but it only continued to disappoint from there. Skeptical after buying this one and unable to find the model locally I opted for a different brand and a higher quality.
